성경 말씀으로 시험해야 한다

 

하나님께서는 사람들에게 저희 불신을 버리도록 강요하지 않으신다.

그들 앞에는 빛과 어둠, 그리고 진리와 오류가 있다.

어느 쪽을 받아들일지는 그들 스스로 결정할 문제이다.

인간의 마음은 선악을 식별할 수 있는 능력을 부여받는다.

하나님께서는 사람들이 일시적 충동으로 결정하지 않고

성경절들을 조심성 있게 대조해 보고 그 증거의 무게에 따라 결정하도록 계획하신다.

 

만일 유대인들이 선입관을 버리고

기록된 예언의 말씀과 예수님의 생애를 특징짓는 사실들을 비교해 보았다면

그들은 비천한 갈릴리 사람의 생애와 봉사에서 예언과 그 예언의 성취 사이에 있는 아름다운 조화를 깨달았을 것이다.

 

오늘날 많은 사람들이 유대인들처럼 속임을 당하고 있다.

종교 지도자들은 자신들의 견해와 유전의 빛으로 성경을 읽으며

백성들은 스스로 성경을 연구하고, 무엇이 진리인지를 스스로 판단하는 것이 아니라

자신들의 판단을 버리고 자신의 영혼을 그들의 지도자들에게 맡긴다.

 

그분의 말씀을 설교하고 가르치는 것은 하나님께서 빛을 퍼뜨리기 위하여 정하신 수단 가운데 하나이다. 그러나 우리들은 모든 사람들의 가르침을 성경 말씀으로 시험해야 한다.

순종하기 위해 진리를 알고자 기도하는 마음으로 성경을 연구하는 사람은

누구든지 거룩한 조명(照明)을 받게 될 것이다.

그는 성경 말씀을 이해하게 될 것이다.

 

“사람이 하나님의 뜻을 행하려 하면

이 교훈이 하나님께로서 왔는지 내가 스스로 말함인지 알리라”(요 7：17).

We Must Bring to the Test of Scripture

 

God does not compel men to give up their unbelief. Before them are light and darkness, truth and error. It is for them to decide which they will accept. The human mind is endowed with power to discriminate between right and wrong. God designs that men shall not decide from impulse, but from weight of evidence, carefully comparing scripture with scripture. Had the Jews laid by their prejudice and compared written prophecy with the facts characterizing the life of Jesus, they would have perceived a beautiful harmony between the prophecies and their fulfillment in the life and ministry of the lowly Galilean.

Many are deceived today in the same way as were the Jews. Religious teachers read the Bible in the light of their own understanding and traditions; and the people do not search the Scriptures for themselves, and judge for themselves as to what is truth; but they yield up their judgment, and commit their souls to their leaders.

The preaching and teaching of His word is one of the means that

God has ordained for diffusing light; but

we must bring every man's teaching to the test of Scripture.

Whoever will prayerfully study the Bible, desiring to know the truth, that he may obey it, will receive divine enlightenment.

He will understand the Scriptures.
