명예에 앞서 겸비가 있다

 

하늘은 침례 요한과 같이 하나님 앞에서 천한 지위를 차지하는 교역자를

사람들 앞에서 높은 자리에 채우기 위하여 선택한다.

가장 어린 아이와 같은 제자가 하나님의 사업에서는 가장 능률적인 사람이다.

하늘의 지성들은 자기를 높이려고 하지 않고

영혼을 구원하고자 힘쓰는 자와 협력할 수 있다.

하늘의 도움의 필요를 가장 절실하게 느끼는 자는 그것을 받기 위해서 간구할 것이다. 그리하면 성령께서는 그로 하여금 예수님을 볼 수 있게 함으로써

심령을 튼튼하고 고상하게 하실 것이다.

그는 그리스도와 교통한 후

그들의 죄 가운데서 멸망해가고 있는 자들을 위하여 일하러 나갈 것이다.

그는 사명을 위하여 기름부음을 받았으므로

많은 식자(識者)와 지적으로 슬기 있는 자들이 실패하는 곳에서 성공할 것이다.

 

그러나 사람들이 자기를 높이고

하나님의 크신 계획의 성공에 저들이 필수적인 존재라고 생각할 때

주께서는 그들을 제쳐놓으신다.

주께서 사람들에게 의존하지 않으신다는 것은 분명하다.

그들이 사업에서 제거된다고 하여 그 사업이 중지되지는 않는다.

오히려 더욱 큰 권능을 가지고 전진한다.

Before Honor is Humility

To fill a high place before men, Heaven chooses the worker who,

like John the Baptist, takes a lowly place before God.

The most childlike disciple is the most efficient in labor for God.

The heavenly intelligences can co-operate with him

who is seeking, not to exalt self, but to save souls.

He who feels most deeply his need of divine aid will plead for it;

and the Holy Spirit will give unto him glimpses of Jesus

that will strengthen and uplift the soul.

From communion with Christ he will go forth to work for

those who are perishing in their sins.

He is anointed for his mission; and he succeeds

where many of the learned and intellectually wise would fail.

 

But when men exalt themselves, feeling that they are a necessity for the success of God's great plan,

the Lord causes them to be set aside.

It is made evident that the Lord is not dependent upon them.

The work does not stop because of their removal from it,

but goes forward with greater power.
