바라봄으로써 변화된다

회개하는 죄인은 “세상 죄를 지고 가는 하나님의 어린양”(요 1:29)에 그 눈을 고정시키도록 하라.

그는 바라봄으로써 변화된다.

그의 공포는 기쁨으로, 의심은 소망으로 변한다. 감사하는 마음이 솟아오른다.

돌 같은 마음이 부서진다. 사랑의 조수가 심령에 밀려들어온다.

그리스도께서 그의 마음에서 영생하도록 솟아나는 샘물이 되신다.

 

우리가 슬픔의 사람이요 질고를 아는 자이신 예수께서 잃어버린 자를 구원하기 위하여 일하면서

멸시와 조롱과 경멸을 받고 당신의 사명을 성취하기까지

이 동네에서 저 동네로 쫓기신 모습을 볼 때,

겟세마네 동산에서 큰 피땀을 흘리고 십자가 상에서 고뇌의 죽음을 당하시는 그분을 보게 될 때

자아는 더 이상 인정받기를 요구하지 않을 것이다.

예수님을 바라볼 때 우리는 자신의 냉담함과 무기력과 이기심을 수치스럽게 생각할 것이다.

우리는 진정으로 아무것도 아니라고 생각할 것이며, 그렇게 될 때

주님을 위해 진정한 봉사를 하게 될 것이다. 우리는

예수님을 따라 십자가를 지고

사랑하는 그분을 위하여 시련이나 치욕, 박해를 견디기를 기뻐할 것이다.

 

“우리 강한 자가 마땅히 연약한 자의 약점을 담당하고, 자기를 기쁘게 하지 아니할 것이라”(롬15：1). 믿음이 비록 약하고 그의 발걸음이 어린이의 발걸음처럼 흔들거릴지라도

그리스도를 믿는 자는 아무도 낮게 평가되지 않을 것이다.

우리는 다른 사람보다 더 많이 받은 모든 것, 그것이 교육이거나 품위거나 품성의 고상함이거나

그리스도인 훈련이거나 혹은 신앙의 경험이거나 간에 이 모든 것으로 인해 우리보다 은혜를 적게 받은 자들에게 빚지고 있으므로 우리는 우리의 능력의 한도 내에서 그들을 위해서 봉사해야 한다.

우리가 강하다면 약한 자의 손을 붙잡아 주어야 한다.

항상 하늘에 계신 아버지의 얼굴을 뵈옵는 영광의 천사들은 하나님의 어린 자녀들을 섬기는 것을

기뻐한다. 많은 좋지 못한 품성의 특성을 가진 불안에 떠는 영혼들이 그들의 특별한 보호를 받는다. 천사들은 언제나 자기들을 가장 필요로 하는 곳에 있다.

그들은 자아에 맞서 치열한 투쟁을 하며, 가장 절망적인 환경에 처한 자들과 함께 있다.

그리고 이 봉사에 그리스도의 참된 제자들은 협력할 것이다.

By Beholding, He Becomes Changed

Let the repenting sinner fix his eyes upon

"the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (John 1:29); and by beholding, he becomes changed. His fear is turned to joy, his doubts to hope. Gratitude springs up. The stony heart is broken. A tide of love sweeps into the soul. Christ is in him a well of water springing up unto everlasting life. When we see Jesus, a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with grief, working to save the lost, slighted, scorned, derided, driven from city to city till His mission was accomplished; when we behold Him in Gethsemane, sweating great drops of blood, and on the cross dying in agony,--when we see this, self will no longer clamor to be recognized. Looking unto Jesus, we shall be ashamed of our coldness, our lethargy, our self-seeking.

We shall be willing to be anything or nothing, so that we may do heart service for the Master. We shall rejoice to bear the cross after Jesus, to endure trial, shame, or persecution for His dear sake.

"We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves." Rom. 15:1. No soul who believes in Christ, though his faith may be weak, and his steps wavering as those of a little child, is to be lightly esteemed. By all that has given us advantage over another,--be it education and refinement, nobility of character, Christian training, religious experience,--we are in debt to those less favored; and, so far as lies in our power, we are to minister unto them. If we are strong, we are to stay up the hands of the weak. Angels of glory, that do always behold the face of the Father in heaven, joy in ministering to His little ones. Trembling souls, who have many objectionable traits of character, are their special charge. Angels are ever present where they are most needed, with those who have the hardest battle with self to fight, and whose surroundings are the most discouraging. And in this ministry Christ's true followers will co-operate. – Desires of Ages, 439-440.
