시편 116:1~11

PRECIOUS IN GOD’S EYES

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. -Psalm 116:15

In response to the news that a mutual friend of ours had died, a wise brother who knew the Lord sent me these words, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” (Ps. 116:15). Our friend’s vibrant faith in Jesus Christ was the dominant characteristic of his life, and we knew he was home with God in heaven. His family had that assurance as well, but I had been focused only on their sorrow. And it’s appropriate to consider others during their grief and loss. But the verse from Psalms turned my thoughts to how the Lord saw the passing of our friend. Something “precious” is something of great value. Yet, there is a larger meaning here. There is something in the death of a saint that transcends our grief over their absence. “Precious (important and no light matter) in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints (His loving ones)” (The Amplified Bible). Another paraphrase says, “His loved ones are very precious to him and he does not lightly let them die” (The Living Bible). God is not flippant toward death. The marvel of His grace and power is that, as believers, our loss of life on earth also brings great gain. Today we have only a glimpse. one day we’ll understand it in the fullness of His light. -David McCasland

그의 경건한 자들의 죽음은 여호와께서 보시기에 귀중한 것이로다-시편 116:15

서로 아는 친구가 죽었다는 소식을 듣자 주님을 아는 한 지혜로운 형제가 나에게 “그의 경건한 자들의 죽음은 여호와께서 보시기에 귀중한 것이로다”(시 116:15)라는 성경구절을 보내주었습니다. 예수 그리스도에 대한 활기찬 믿음이 그 친구의 삶을 지배하는 특성이었는데, 우리는 그 친구가 지금 하나님과 함께 천국의 본향에 있다는 것을 알고 있었습니다. 그의 가족도 그런 확신을 가지고 있었지만, 나는 그들의 슬픔에만 마음을 집중하고 있었습니다. 슬픔과 상실을 겪고 있는 사람들을 배려해주는 것은 합당한 일입니다. 하지만 시편의 그 구절은 하나님이 우리 친구의 죽음을 어떻게 보시는지에 대해 생각해보게 해주었습니다. “귀중한” 것은 상당한 가치가 있는 어떤 것입니다. 그렇지만 여기에는 이보다 더 큰 의미가 있습니다. 성도의 죽음에는 그가 세상에 존재하지 않음으로 인해 생긴 우리의 슬픔을 초월하는 무언가가 있습니다. “주님의 성도(하나님의 사랑하는 자들)의 죽음은 주님이 보시기에 귀중한(중요하며 가볍지 않은) 것입니다”(확대성경). 이렇게 바꾸어 풀어 쓴 성경도 있습니다. “하나님이 사랑하시는 자들은 하나님께 매우 귀중하여 하나님은 쉽게 그들을 죽게 하지 않으십니다”(리빙 바이블). 하나님은 죽음을 가볍게 여기시지 않습니다. 하나님의 은혜와 능력이 놀라운 것은 믿는 자인 우리가 이 땅에서 생명을 잃는 것은 엄청난 유익을 가져온다는 것입니다. 지금은 이 진리를 단지 어렴풋이 알 수밖에 없습니다. 언젠가는 하나님의 빛의 충만함으로 그것을 이해할 수 있게 될 것입니다.

그리하여 나의 마지막 숨결이 베일을 두 조각으로 찢어놓을 때 죽음으로써 나는 사망에서 벗어나 영생을 얻게 되리라

믿음은 죽음의 깊은 바다를 건널 수 있는 다리를 건설해준다
