환난의 시기 가운데서도 하나님의 택한 백성은 요동하지 않고 설 것이다

우리는 종말의 때에 살고 있다.

신속히 성취되는 때의 징조들은 그리스도의 오심이 가까움을 선포한다.

우리가 사는 시대는 엄숙하고 중대하다.

하나님의 영은 점진적으로, 그러면서도 분명하게 지상에서 물러가고 있다. 

재앙과 심판이 하나님의 은혜를 멸시하는 자들에게 이미 내리고 있다.

땅과 바다의 재난, 불안한 사회의 상태, 전쟁의 경보 등은 불길한 전조이다.

그것들은 가장 큰 사건들이 다가오고 있음을 예보한다. 

악의 세력들은 그들의 힘을 결속하여 강화시키고 있다.

그들은 마지막 큰 위기를 위하여 힘을 모으고 있다.

큰 변화가 미구에 이 세상에서 일어날 것이고 마지막 동요가 신속히 이루어질 것이다.

세상에 있는 것들의 상태는 환난의 때가 우리에게 다가왔다는 것을 보여 준다.

일간신문들은 가까운 장래에 있을 무서운 투쟁을 알려주는 시사로 충만하다.

대담한 강도 사건이 빈번히 일어난다. 동맹 파업은 예사가 되었다. 절도와 살인이 도처에서 범해진다.

마귀에게 사로잡힌 사람들이 남녀들과 어린이들의 생명을 빼앗고 있다.

사람들은 부도덕에 정신을 빼앗겼고, 온갖 종류의 악행이 성행한다. 

무서운 시련과 시험이 하나님의 백성을 기다리고 있다.

전쟁의 정신이 지구의 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 나라들을 격동시키고 있다.

그러나 다가오는 환난의 시기, 개국 이래로 없었던 환난의 시기 가운데서도

하나님의 택한 백성은 요동하지 않고 설 것이다.

능력이 탁월한 천사들이 그들을 보호할 것이기 때문에 사단과 그의 군사가 그들을 멸할 수가 없다......

하나님께서는 당신의 백성에게 말씀하신다.

“너희는 저희 중에서 나와서 따로 있고 부정한 것을 만지지 말라

내가 너희를 영접하여 너희에게 아버지가 되고 너희는 내게 자녀가 되리라.”

“오직 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유된 백성이니 이는

너희를 어두운데서 불러내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 자의 아름다운 덕을 선전하게 하려 하심이라”

(고후 6:17, 18; 벧전 2:9). 

하나님의 백성은 그분을 완전히, 그리고 마음을 다하여 섬기는 한 백성으로 구별되어

자기 자신에게 영광을 돌리지 않고

가장 엄숙한 언약에 의하여 주님과 그분만을 섬기기로 스스로 맹세한 사실을 기억해야 한다.

?IAroma of LifeI God’s chosen people will stand unmoved?

We are living in the time of the end. The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand. The days in which we live are solemn and important. The Spirit of God is gradually but surely being withdrawn from the earth. Plagues and judgments are already falling upon the despisers of the grace of God. The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war, are portentous. They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude.

The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating. They are strengthening for the last great crisis. Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones. 

The condition of things in the world shows that troublous times are right upon us. The daily papers are full of indications of a terrible conflict in the near future. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed of demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. Men have become infatuated with vice, and every species of evil prevails......

Fearful tests and trials await the people of God. The spirit of war is stirring the nations from one end of the earth to the other. But in the midst of the time of trouble that is coming,—a time of trouble such as has not been since there was a nation,—God’s chosen people will stand unmoved. Satan and his host cannot destroy them, for angels that excel in strength will protect them.

God’s word to His people is: “Come out from among them, and be ye separate, ... and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters.” “Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” 2 Corinthians 6:17, 18; 1 Peter 2:9. 

God’s people are to be distinguished as a people who serve Him fully, wholeheartedly, taking no honor to themselves, and remembering that by a most solemn covenant they have bound themselves to serve the Lord and Him only.
