우리는 어려움을 예상해야 한다

“보라 신랑이로다 맞으러 나오라” (마 25:6).

일어나서 그대들의 등불을 손질하는 일에 지금 시간을 잃지 말라.

피차간에 완전한 연합을 이루고자 노력하는 일에 시간을 잃지 말라. 

우리는 어려움을 예상해야 한다. 시련이 다가올 것이다.

우리의 구원의 대장되신 그리스도께서는 고난으로 완전해지셨다. 

그분을 따르는 자들은 원수를 여러 번 만나서 심하게 시련을 당할 것이다.

그러나 그들은 낙담할 필요가 없다.

그리스도께서는 그들에게 “담대하라 내가 세상을 이기었노라” (요 16:33) 고 말씀하신다.

다음 글은 기독교 전쟁을 묘사한 것이다: 

나는 기독교인들의 천국 행로가 여름만큼 밝고 아침처럼 즐거울 것이라고 생각했다. 

주님은 길을 보여주었는데, 그것은 어둡고 거칠고, 온통 가시투성이였다; 

나는 천상의 보상과 명성을 꿈꾸었다. 나는 야자나무 가지, 가운, 왕관을 요구했다. 

그리고 주님은 나에게 십자가와 무덤을 보여주었다.

We Must Expect Difficulties

“Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him.” Matthew 25:6. Lose no time now in rising and trimming your lamps. Lose no time in seeking perfect unity with one another. 

We must expect difficulties. Trials will come. Christ, the Captain of our salvation, was made perfect through suffering. 

His followers will encounter the enemy many times and will be severely tried, but they need not despair. Christ says to them: “Be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33.

The following lines portray the Christian warfare: I thought that the course of the Christian to heaven Would be bright as the summer and glad as the morn. 

Thou show’dst me the path; it was dark and rough, All rugged with rocks, all tangled with thorn; 

I dreamed of celestial rewards and renown; I asked for the palm branch, the robe, and the crown; I asked, and Thou show’dst me a cross and a grave.
