마음을 먼저 점령함

 “선한 사람은 마음의 쌓은 선에서 선을 내고 악한 자는 그 쌓은 악에서 악을 내나니

이는 마음의 가득한 것을 입으로 말함이니라 (눅 6:45)."

 마음은 선이나 악으로써 반드시 점령되도록 구성되어 있다.

만일 이것이 낮은 수준을 취한다면,

이는 일반적으로 평범한 문제들을 처리하지 않고 그대로 내버려두기 때문이다.

사람은 마음의 역사를 지배하고 조절할 힘을 가지고 있다.

그리고 그의 생각의 방향을 지향할 힘을 가지고 있다.

그러나 이것은 우리 자신의 힘이 미칠 수 있는 것보다 더 큰 노력을 요구한다. 

우리들이 올바른 생각과 올바른 명상을 가지려고 하면

우리는 반드시 우리의 마음을 하나님 안에 머물도록 할 것이다.

저들의 생각과 상상력을 지배하여야 하는 것이 저들의 의무인 것임을 깨닫는 이들은 아주 적다.

연단되지 않은 마음을 유익한 문제들 위에 고정시키기는 어려운 일이다.

그러나 만일 생각들이 정당하게 쓰여지지 않는다면, 종교는 영혼을 위하여 활약할 수 없을 것이다.

마음은 반드시 거룩하고 영원한 사물들로써 선정되어야 한다.

그렇지 않으면 경박하고 천박한 생각을 품게 될 것이다.

지적, 도덕적, 두 힘이 반드시 연단되어야 한다.

그리고 저들은 이를 사용함으로써 강하게 되고 향상될 것이다.

 이 문제를 바르게 이해하기 위하여 우리는 우리의 마음이 자연적으로 타락되었음과

또 우리는 우리 스스로의 힘만으로는 올바른 길을 추구할 수 없다는 것을 기억하여야 할 것이다.

이것은 하나님의 은혜와 우리의 맡은 부분에서 우리의 가장 진실한 노력이 합하여 짐으로써만

우리는 승리를 획득할 수 있는 것이다.

Preoccupying the Mind

"A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh. Luke 6:45."

The mind is so constituted that it must be occupied with either good or evil. If it takes a low level, it is generally because it is left to deal with commonplace subjects.... 

Man has the power to regulate and control the workings of the mind, and give direction to the current of his thoughts. 

But this requires greater effort than we can make in our own strength. We must stay our minds on God, if we would have right thoughts, and proper subjects for meditation.

Few realize that it is a duty to exercise control over their thoughts and imaginations. It is difficult to keep the undisciplined mind fixed upon profitable subjects. But if the thoughts are not properly employed, religion cannot flourish in the soul.

The mind must be preoccupied with sacred and eternal things, or it will cherish trifling and superficial thoughts. Both the intellectual and the moral powers must be disciplined, and they will strengthen and improve by exercise.

To understand this matter aright, we must remember that our hearts are naturally depraved, and we are unable, of ourselves, to pursue a right course. 

It is only by the grace of God, combined with the most earnest efforts on our part, that we can gain the victory.
