사랑은 화목케 하는 다리를 놓음

God’s love for the world was not manifest because He sent His Son,

but because He loved the world He sent His Son into the world

that divinity clothed with humanity might touch humanity,

while divinity lays hold of divinity. T

hough sin had produced a gulf between man and his God,

a divine benevolence provided a plan to bridge that gulf. 

세상에 대한 하나님의 사랑은 그의 아들을 보냄으로써가 아니요

그가 세상을 사랑하심으로써 그의 아들을 이 세상에 보내어

신성을 감추게 하시고 인간과 접촉할 수 있도록 인성을 쓰게 하심으로써 표현된 것이다.

죄가 비록 인간과 하나님 사이에 깊은 장벽을 만들었을지라도

하나님의 자비하심은 이 장벽을 넘을 수 있는 다리를 놓는 한 경륜을 세웠던 것이다. 

And what material did He use? A part of Himself.

The brightness of the Father’s glory

came to a world all seared and marred with the curse,

and in His own divine character, in His own divine body, bridged the gulf....

The windows of heaven were opened

and the showers of heavenly grace in healing streams came to our benighted world.... 

그러면 어떤 재료를 사용하셨는가?

그는 그 자신의 한 부분을 사용하셨던 것이다.

아버지의 영광의 찬란한 빛은 상하고 병든 것을 치유하는 빛으로서

그의 거룩한 품성과 그의 거룩한 몸, 즉 이 장벽의 다리를 통하여서 세상에 들어왔다. …

하늘의 창문들은 열려졌고 하늘의 은혜의 소낙비는 치유의 강물처럼 어두워진 이 세상으로 흘러 들어왔다.

Had God given us less we could not have been saved.

But He gave to our world so abundantly that it could not be said

that He could love us more.

Then how foolish is the position taken that there is to be a second probation

after the first is exhausted. 

하나님께서 조금밖에 우리에게 주시지 않으셨다면 우리는 구원받을 수 없었을 것이다.

그러나 하나님께서는 우리를 더욱 사랑하실 수 있으실 터인데 라고 말할 수 없을 만큼

우리 세상에 아주 풍성하게 주셨다.

그러면 첫번째를 주신 후에 두번째 은혜의 기간이 있을 것이라는 견해가 얼마나 어리석은지. 

God has exhausted His benevolence ... in pouring out all heaven to man

in one great gift.

Only in comprehending the value of this offering can we comprehend infinity.

O, the breadth and height and depth of the love of God!

Who of finite beings can comprehend it?

하나님께서는 사람에게 하나의 큰 선물로 온 하늘을 쏟아 주심으로 그분의 자비는 소진되었다.

다만 이 재물의 가치를 깨닫는 자만이 무한대의 가치를 깨닫는다.

아. 하나님의 사랑의 넓이와 높이와 깊이여! 어떤 유한한 존재가 그것을 깨닫겠는가?

God claims the whole of the affections of man,

the whole heart, the whole soul, the whole mind, the whole strength.

He lays claim to all that there is of man,

because He has poured out the whole treasure of heaven by giving us His all at once,

reserving nothing greater that heaven can do.... 

하나님께서는 온 마음과, 온 정신과, 온 정성과 온 힘을 다한 사랑을 요구하신다.

그분께서는 하늘이 줄 수 있는 가장 큰 것을 조금도 남김없이

그분의 모든 것을 한 번에 우리에게 주시기 위하여 하늘의 전 보물을 쏟아 주셨기 때문에

사람을 포함한 모든 것을 요구하신다....

When I commence writing on this subject,

I go on and on, and try to get beyond the outer edge, but I fail.

When we shall reach the mansions above,

Jesus will Himself lead the white-robed ones,

made white in the blood of the Lamb, to the Father.

내가 이 주제를 기록하려고 시작했을 때에

나는 내가 쓸 수 있는 모든 방법을 동원하여 가장 힘써 기술하였지만 결국 실패했다.

우리가 하늘 저택에 이르게 될 때에야

예수께서 자신이 어린양의 피로 희게 한 흰 옷 입은 자들을 하늘 아버지께 인도할 것이다.
