약속들을 통하여 그리스도께서는

당신의 은혜와 능력을 우리에게 전달해 주신다

성경을 단순히 기록된 말씀으로 받아들일 것이 아니고

우리에게 말씀하신 하나님의 말씀으로 받아들여야 한다. 

고통 당하는 사람들이 그리스도께 나왔을 때,

그분께서는 도움을 구하러 온 그 사람들 뿐만 아니라

각 시대를 통하여 동일한 필요와 믿음으로 당신께 나오게 될 모든 사람들을 보셨다. 

그분께서 중풍병자에게 “소자야 안심하라 네 죄사함을 받았느니라”고 말씀하시고,

가버나움의 여자에게 “딸아 네 믿음이 너를 구원하였으니 평안히 가라”고 말씀하실 때,

그분께서는 당신께 도움을 구하게 될 고통당하고 죄의 짐에 눌린 다른 사람들에게도 말씀하셨다

(마 9:2, 눅 8:48).

 하나님의 말씀의 약속은 모두 그와 같다. 

그 약속을 통하여 그분께서는 우리에게 개인적으로 말씀하시며,

마치 우리가 당신의 말씀을 직접 들을 수 있는 것처럼 말씀하시고 계신다. 

이와 같은 약속들을 통하여 그리스도께서는 당신의 은혜와 능력을 우리에게 전달해 주신다. 

그것들은 “만국을 소성하기 위하여” 있는 나무에 속한 잎사귀들이다(계 22:2).

그것들을 받아들이고 흡수하면, 그것들은 품성의 힘과, 영성과 생명의 영양소가 된다. 

그 외의 다른 어떤 것도 그와 같은 치료의 능이 될 수 없다.

그 밖의 어떤 것도 온몸에 생명력이 되는 용기와 믿음을 나누어 줄 수 없다.

It is in These Promises that Christ Communicates to Us His Grace and Power

The Scriptures are to be received as God’s word to us, not written merely, but spoken. 

When the afflicted ones came to Christ, He beheld not only those who asked for help, but all who throughout the ages should come to Him in like need and with like faith. 

When He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee;” when He said to the woman of Capernaum, “Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace,” He spoke to other afflicted, sin-burdened ones who should seek His help. Matthew 9:2; Luke 8:48.

So with all the promises of God’s word. 

In them He is speaking to us individually, speaking as directly as if we could listen to His voice. 

It is in these promises that Christ communicates to us His grace and power. 

They are leaves from that tree which is “for the healing of the nations.” Revelation 22:2. Received, assimilated, they are to be the strength of the character, the inspiration and sustenance of the life. 

Nothing else can have such healing power. Nothing besides can impart the courage and faith which give vital energy to the whole being.
