봉사의 참 동기

"사람에게 보이려고 그들 앞에서 너희 의를 행치 않도록 주의하라" (마 6:1)

산 위에서 하신 예수님의 말씀은

그분께서 생애를 통해 말없이 가르쳐 오셨으나 사람들이 이해하지 못한 교훈을 말로 표현한 것이었다. 
그들은 예수께서 그처럼 대단한 능력을 가지고도

그들이 가장 좋게 생각하는 것을 얻는데 그 능력을 사용하시지 않자 어떻게 저럴 수 있는가 하고 의아해 했다.

그들의 정신과 동기와 방법은 예수님과 반대였다. 
그들은 매우 열성적으로 율법을 존중했지만 실제적인 목적은 자신의 영광이었다. 
이 때문에 그리스도께서는, 자아를 사랑하는 자는 율법을 범하는 자임을 그들에게 나타내시고자 하셨다.

그리스도를 따르는 자들은 그들의 선행을 통하여 영광을 그들 자신에게 돌리지 아니하고,

그들에게 일하도록 은혜와 능력을 주신 분에게 돌려야 한다. 
모든 선한 일은 성령을 통하여 성취되며, 성령은 받는 자가 아닌 주신 분을 영화롭게 하기 위하여 주어진다. 

그리스도의 빛이 심령 속에서 빛나게 되면, 입술이 하나님께 돌리는 찬송과 감사로 채워질 것이다. 
그대의 기도, 의무 수행, 자선, 극기가 생각과 대화의 주제가 되지 않을 것이다. 
그리스도께서 찬양을 받으시고, 자신은 숨겨질 것이다. 오로지 그리스도만이 나타날 것이다.

목적의 진실, 곧 마음에서 우러나오는 진정한 친절은 하늘이 귀하게 여기는 동기이다. 
하나님께서는 진실로 사랑하고 마음을 다하여 헌신하는 영혼을 오빌의 순금보다 더 가치 있게 여기신다.

The True Motive in Service

“Take heed that ye do not your righteousness before men, to be seen of them.” —Matthew 6:1, 

The words of Christ on the mount were an ｅxpression of that which had been the unspoken teaching of His life, but which the people had failed to comprehend. 
They could not understand how, having such great power, He neglected to use it in securing what they regarded as the chief good. 

Their spirit and motives and methods were the opposite of His. 
While they claimed to be very jealous for the honor of the law, self-glory was the real object which they sought; and Christ would make it manifest to them that the lover of self is a transgressor of the law.

By their good works, Christ’s followers are to bring glory, not to themselves, but to Him through whose grace and power they have wrought. 
It is through the Holy Spirit that every good work is accomplished, and the Spirit is given to glorify, not the receiver, but the Giver. 

When the light of Christ is shining in the soul, the lips will be filled with praise and thanksgiving to God. Your prayers, your performance of duty, your benevolence, your self-denial, will not be the theme of your thought or conversation.
Jesus will be magnified, self will be hidden, and Christ will appear as all in all.

Sincerity of purpose, real kindness of heart, is the motive that Heaven values. 
The soul that is sincere in its love, wholehearted in its devotion, God regards as more precious than the golden wedge of Ophir.
