목적을 가진 생애

“야곱의 하나님으로 자기 도움을 삼으며

여호와 자기 하나님에게 그 소망을 두는 자는 복이 있도다" (시 146:5). 

 그대의 유일의 안전과 행복은 그리스도를 그대의 계속적인 권고자로 삼는 것이다.

그대는 이 넓은 세상에서 예수님 이외 다른 친구를 가지고 있지 않다면 그대는 행복할 수 있을 것이다.

그대의 불안감과 사향병이나 우울함이 그대를 위한 좋은 길이 될 수도 있다.

그대의 하늘 아버지께서는 그대의 가장 큰 또는 열렬한 소망들과 희망들을 만족시킬 수 있는

친구요, 사람이시요, 의논의 대상이 되심을 발견하도록 그대를 가르치신다는 뜻이다.

그대는 어떤 일에든지 너무 염려하지 말 것이다.

그대는 그 한 날의 맡은 바 일을 속히 행하라. 그대의 최선을 다하라.

하나님께서 그대를 도우시는 분이 되어 주시기를 간구하라.

날마다 “나는 하나님을 위하여 일하고 있으며

나 자신을 위하여, 나 자신의 영광을 위하여 살고 있는 것이 아니요

하나님을 영화롭게 하기 위하여 살고 있다는 것을 생각하라. 

오, 그리스도를 신뢰하고 그대 자신의 마음을 의지하지 말라!

그대의 무거운 짐과 그대 자신을 그분께 맡기라.

만일 기쁨이나 만족을 느끼지 못하여도 낙심하지 말라. 바라고 믿으라.

그대는 하나님의 사자들로 말미암아 귀한 경험을 가지게 될 것이다.

그대의 낙심과 의혹과 더불어 예수님의 이름으로 승리를 획득할 때까지 씨름하라.

근심과 실망과 암담한 것에 용기를 주지 말라. 하나님의 허락을 신뢰하라.

의심 없이 이 허락들 가운데서 편히 쉬라.

 나는 사람들이 행복을 찾으려는 소망으로 이것도 찾고 저것도 시험하다가

불만족과 쉼이 없이 항상 낙담으로 불평하고 있는 동안

다른 이들은 저들의 구주의 영광과 명예 또는 동료의 유익과 축복을 구할 목적으로 살아가는 이 땅에서

참으로 행복된 사람들을 보았다.

자신만을 위하여 살아가는 사람들은 결단코 만족할 수 없으며 항상 부족을 느낄 것이다.

생애의 충실함이 그대의 행동의 부분이 되고 그대의 선을 행할 목적이 되게 한다.

 고통과 유혹으로 더불어 싸우는 자들에게 친절하고 즐거운 말로 축복할 수 있도록

다른 이들의 마음을 위로할 시간을 찾으라.

이렇게 다른 이들에게 우리의 짐을 대신 지실 분을 지적하기 위해

즐겁고 희망찬 말로 축복하는 이들에게 기대하지 않았던 평화와 행복을 발견케 되고

자신에게 위안이 될 것이다.

Life with a Purpose

Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God. Psalm 146:5. (Our High Calling 64.1)

Your only safety and happiness are in making Christ your constant counselor. You can be happy in Him if you had not another friend in the wide world. Your feelings of unrest and homesickness or loneliness may be for your good. Your heavenly Father means to teach you to find in Him the friendship and love and consolation that will satisfy your most earnest hopes and desires....

Do not be overanxious about anything. Go quietly about your duty which the day brings you. Do the best you can; ask God to be your helper.... Feel every day, “I am doing my work for God. I am not living for myself, to glorify myself, but to glorify God.” 

Oh, trust in Jesus and not in your own heart! Cast your burden and yourself upon Him. If you feel no joy, no consolation, do not be discouraged. Hope and believe. You may have a precious experience in the things of God. Wrestle with your discouragements and doubts until you gain the victory over them in Jesus’ name. Do not encourage grief, despondency, and darkness.... Repose in the broad, sure promises of God. Rest in these promises, without a doubt.

I have seen that those who live for a purpose, seeking to benefit and bless their fellow men and to honor and glorify their Redeemer, are the truly happy ones on the earth, while the man who is restless, discontented, and seeking this and testing that, hoping to find happiness, is always complaining of disappointment. He is always in want, never satisfied, because he lives for himself alone. Let it be your aim to do good, to act your part in life faithfully.

Find time to comfort some other heart, to bless with a kind, cheering word someone who is battling with temptation and maybe with affliction. In thus blessing another with cheering, hopeful words, pointing him to the Burden Bearer, you may unexpectedly find peace, happiness, and consolation yourself.
