지정된 일을 매일 충실하게 수행하는 자들

우리는 자신을 동정하는 일을 경계할 필요가 있다.

그대가 마땅히 받을 만큼 평가를 받지 못하고, 그대의 노력이 인정받지 못하고,

그대의 사업이 너무 어렵다는 등의 생각을 결코 갖지 말라.

그리스도께서 우리를 위하여 참으신 것을 생각하고 불평하는 생각을 일체 버려라.

우리는 우리 주님께서 받으신 것보다 더욱 좋은 대접을 받고 있다.

“네가 너를 위하여 대사를 경영하느냐 그것을 경영하지 말라”(렘 45:5). 

주님께서는 십자가를 지는 것보다 면류관을 얻고자 더욱 갈망하는 자들을 위하여

당신의 사업에 자리를 마련해 두지 않으셨다.

그분께서는 보수를 받는 것보다 의무를 다하고자 더욱 노력하는 사람들,

곧 승진을 위하여서보다 원칙을 위하여 더욱 큰 열심을 가진 사람들을 원하신다.

겸손하고, 그들의 일을 하나님께 하는 것처럼 수행하는 사람들은

떠들썩하고 잘난 체하면서 일하는 사람들보다 겉으로 나타나는 업적이 크지 못할 수도 있을 것이다.

그러나 그들의 사업이 더욱 가치가 있다.

흔히 외관을 크게 자랑하는 사람들은 사람들과 하나님 사이를 가로막아 자신에게로 주의를 집중시킨다.

그러므로 그들의 사업은 실패하게 된다...

많은 사람들은 그들 스스로를 제어하고 개혁할 결심을 하지 않으므로 잘못된 행동을 기계적으로 되풀이한다.

그러나 그렇게 할 필요가 없다.

그들은 최선의 봉사를 할 수 있게끔 그들의 능력을 계발시킬 수 있다.

그리하면 그들은 언제나 봉사의 요청을 받게 될 것이다.

그들은 그들이 가진 가치 그대로 인정을 받게 될 것이다.

만일 어떤 사람들이 높은 위치에서 일할 수 있는 자격을 갖추게 되면,

주님께서는 그 짐을 그들에게 뿐만 아니라

그들을 시험해 본 자들, 그들을 지혜롭게 전진하도록 격려할 수 있는 자들에게도 지우신다.

지정된 일을 매일 충실하게 수행하는 자들이,

하나님께서 정한 때가 이르면, “더욱 높이 올라오라”는 그분의 부르심을 받게 된다.

Those Who Perform Faith­fully Their Appointed Work Day By Day

We need to beware of self-pity. Never indulge the feel­ing that you are not esteemed as you should be, that your efforts are not appreciated, that your work is too difficult. Let the memory of what Christ has endured for us silence every murmuring thought. We are treated better than was our Lord. "Seekest thou great things for thyself seek them not." Jeremiah 45:5. 

The Lord has no place in His work for those who have a greater desire to win the crown than to bear the cross. He wants men who are more intent upon doing their duty than upon receiving their reward—men who are more solicitous for principle than for promotion. 

Those who are humble, and who do their work as unto God, may not make so great a show as do those who are full of bustle and self-importance; but their work counts for more. Often those who make a great parade call attention to self, interposing between the people and God, and their work proves a failure...

Because they have not the determination to take them­selves in hand and to reform, many become stereotyped in a wrong course of action. But this need not be. They may cultivate their powers to do the very best kind of service, and then they will be always in demand. They will be valued for all that they are worth. 

If any are qualified for a higher position, the Lord will lay the burden, not alone on them, but on those who have tested them, who know their worth, and who can under­standingly urge them forward. It is those who perform faith­fully their appointed work day by day, who in God’s own time will hear His call, Come up higher.
