믿음과 받으심

“오직 이것을 기록함은 너희로 예수께서 하나님의 아들 그리스도이심을 믿게 하려 함이요 

또 너희로 믿고 그 이름을 힘입어 생명을 얻게 하려 함이니라” (요 20:31)

그대들이 요구하는 바는 평안 곧 마음 가운데 하늘의 사유와 안정과 사랑을 얻는 것이다. 
이것은 돈으로 살 수 없고 지력으로도 얻을 수 없고 지혜로도 구할 수 없나니

그대 자신의 노력으로는 그것을 도무지 얻기를 바랄 수 없는 것이다. 
그러나 하나님께서는 이것을 “돈 없이 값없이” (사 55:1) 한 선물로 제공하신다. 

만일 그대들이 손을 내밀어 붙잡기만 하면 그것은 그대들의 것이 된다.

주께서 말씀하시기를

“너희 죄가 주홍 같을지라도 눈과 같이 희어질 것이요 진홍 같이 붉을지라도 양털같이 되리라”(사 1:18), 
“새 영을 너희 속에 두고 새 마음을 너희에게 주되

너희 육신에서 굳은 마음을 제하고 부드러운 마음을 줄 것”(겔 36:26)이라고 하셨다. 

그대들이 죄를 자복하고 충심으로 그것을 버린다고 하자.

또 그대들은 자신을 하나님께 바치기로 결심하였다고 하자.

그렇다고 하면 하나님께 나아가서 그가 그대의 죄를 씻어 버리시고 그대에게 새 마음을 주시기를 구하라. 

그리고 그가 허락하셨으니 그렇게 하실 것을 믿으라.

이것은 예수께서 세상에 계실 때에 가르치신 교훈이니

즉 하나님께서 허락하신 선물은 우리가 받은 줄로 믿어야 우리의 것이 되는 것이다. 

예수께서는 사람들이 당신의 권능을 믿을 때에 저들의 질병을 고쳐 주셨다. 
그는 저들을 눈으로 볼 수 있는 일에 도와주셨나니

그렇게 함으로 저들이 눈으로 볼 수 없는 일에서도 그를 신임할 수 있게

즉, 저들이 죄를 사하실 수 있는 당신의 권능을 믿게 하셨다.

Faith and Difference

“These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.” John 20:31.

It is peace that you need—Heaven’s forgiveness and peace and love in the soul. 
Money cannot buy it, intellect cannot procure it, wisdom cannot attain to it; you can never hope, by your own efforts, to secure it. 
But God offers it to you as a gift, “without money and without price.” Isaiah 55:1. 

It is yours if you will but reach out your hand and grasp it. The Lord says, “Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” Isaiah 1:18. 
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you.” Ezekiel 36:26.

You have confessed your sins, and in heart put them away. You have resolved to give yourself to God. Now go to Him, and ask that He will wash away your sins and give you a new heart. 
Then believe that He does this because He has promised. 

This is the lesson which Jesus taught while He was on earth, that the gift which God promises us, we must believe we do receive, and it is ours. 

Jesus healed the people of their diseases when they had faith in His power; 
He helped them in the things which they could see, thus inspiring them with confidence in Him concerning things which they could not see—leading them to believe in His power to forgive sins.
