보이지 않는 것을 바라봄

비방이 사람의 명예를 훼손할 수는 있으나 품성을 더럽힐 수는 없다.

품성은 하나님께서 보호하고 계신다.

우리가 범죄하고자 마음먹지 않는 한,

사람의 능력이든 사단의 능력이든 간에, 심령을 더럽힐 수 있는 능력은 없다.

심지(心志)가 견고한 사람은

가장 고통스런 시련과 가장 절망적인 환경에 놓일 때에도

번영 중에 있을 때 곧 하나님의 빛과 은총이 그에게 머물러 있는 것처럼 보일 때와 동일하다.

그의 말과 동기와 행동이 잘못 전해지고 왜곡되게 알려질 수도 있다.

그러나 그는 성패가 걸린 문제에 더 큰 관심을 두기 때문에 그런 일을 괘념치 않는다. 

그는 모세와 같이 “보이지 아니하는 자를 보는 것 같이하여”(히브리서 11: 27) 참으며,

“보이는 것이 아니요 보이지 않는 것”(고린도후서 4: 18)을 바라본다.

그리스도께서는 어떤 것들이 사람들에 의해 오해를 받고 누명을 쓰고 있는지 훤히 아신다.

그분의 자녀들은

아무리 심한 모욕과 경멸을 당할지라도 인내와 신뢰를 보이며 조용히 기다릴 만큼 여유가 있다.
그것은, 드러나지 아니할 비밀이 없고,

하나님을 영화롭게 하는 자들이 사람들과 천사들 앞에서 그분께 높임을 받을 것이기 때문이다.

Looking at the Things Which Are Not Seen

 While slander may blacken the reputation, it cannot stain the character. That is in God’s keeping. So long as we do not consent to sin, there is no power, whether human or satanic, that can bring a stain upon the soul.

A man whose heart is stayed upon God is just the same in the hour of his most afflicting trials and most discouraging surroundings as when he was in prosperity, when the light and favor of God seemed to be upon him.

His words, his motives, his actions, may be misrepresented and falsified, but he does not mind it, because he has greater interests at stake. 

Like Moses, he endures as “seeing Him who is invisible” (Hebrews 11:27); looking “not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen” (2 Corinthians 4:18).

 Christ is acquainted with all that is misunderstood and misrepresented by men.

His children can afford to wait in calm patience and trust, no matter how much maligned and despised; for nothing is secret that shall not be made manifest, and those who honor God shall be honored by Him in the presence of men and angels.
