네 사는 날을 따라서 능력이 있으리로다

 

주께서는 당신의 백성들에게 시련에서 벗어나게 해주시겠다고는 약속하지 않으셨지만

사실은 그보다 더 좋은 것을 약속하셨다. 

그분께서는 이런 말씀들을 주셨다. 

“네 사는 날을 따라서 능력이 있으리로다”(신명기 33: 25). 

“내 은혜가 네게 족하도다 이는 내 능력이 약한 데서 온전하여짐이라”(고린도후서 12: 9). 

만일, 그대가 예수님을 위하여 시뻘겋게 단 풀무 속을 지나가도록 요구당한다면, 

그분께서는 바벨론에서 진실한 세 사람과 함께 계셨던 것처럼 그대 곁에 계실 것이다. 

구주를 사랑하는 자들은 그분과 함께 굴욕과 치욕을 당할 때마다 기뻐할 것이다. 

주님을 향한 사랑 때문에 그들은 그분을 위해 받는 고통을 달게 여긴다.

 

각 시대를 통하여, 사단은 하나님의 백성을 핍박해 왔다. 

그는 그들을 고문하고 죽였으나, 그들은 죽음으로써 승리자가 되었다. 

그들은 확고부동한 믿음으로 사단보다 더 강하신 분을 나타내었다. 

사단은 고문하고 몸을 죽일 수는 있었지만, 

그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 감추어진 생명은 건드릴 수 없었다. 

그는 감옥의 벽 속에 감금시킬 수는 있었으나 정신은 속박할 수 없었다. 

그들은 어둠 저편에 있는 영광을 바라볼 수 있었기에 이렇게 말할 수 있었다. 

“생각건대 현재의 고난은 장차 우리에게 나타날 영광과 족히 비교할 수 없도다”(로마서 8: 18). 

“우리의 잠시 받는 환난의 경한 것이

지극히 크고 영원한 영광의 중한 것을 우리에게 이루게 함이니”(고린도후서 4: 17).

 

하나님의 영광 곧 그분의 품성은 당신께서 택하신 자들에 의해 시련과 핍박을 통해 나타난다. 

세상의 미움과 핍박을 받는 하나님의 교회는

그리스도의 학교에서 교육을 받고 훈련을 받게 된다. 

그들은 세상의 좁은 길을 걸으며, 고난의 도가니에서 정결하게 된다. 

그들은 그리스도를 따르는 동안 쓰라린 투쟁을 경험한다. 

그들은 극기를 감내해야 하며 처절한 실망을 맛보기도 한다. 

그러나 그들의 고통스러운 경험은

죄의식을 일깨워 주고 죄로 인한 비애를 그들에게 가르쳐 주므로, 

그들은 죄를 가증하게 보게 된다. 

그리스도의 고난에 동참하는 자가 됨으로 그들은 그분의 영광에 참예하는 자가 된다.

As Thy Days, So Shall Thy Strength Be

 

While the Lord has not promised His people exemption from trials,

He has promised that which is far better.

He has said,

"As thy days, so shall thy strength be."

"My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness."

Deuteronomy 33:25; 2 Corinthians 12:9. 

If you are called to go through the fiery furnace for His sake,

Jesus will be by your side even as He was with the faithful three in Babylon.

Those who love their Redeemer

will rejoice at every opportunity of sharing with Him humiliation and reproach.

The love they bear their Lord makes suffering for His sake sweet.

 

In all ages Satan has persecuted the people of God.

He has tortured them and put them to death, but in dying they became conquerors.

They revealed in their steadfast faith a mightier one than Satan.

Satan could torture and kill the body,

but he could not touch the life that was hid with Christ in God.

He could incarcerate in prison walls, but he could not bind the spirit. 

They could look beyond the gloom to the glory, saying,

"I reckon that the sufferings of this present time

are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

"Our light affliction, which is but for a moment,

worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."

Romans 8:18; 2 Corinthians 4:17.

 

Through trials and persecution,

the glory--character--of God is revealed in His chosen ones.

The church of God, hated and persecuted by the world,

are educated and disciplined in the school of Christ.

They walk in narrow paths on earth; they are purified in the furnace of affliction.

They follow Christ through sore conflicts;

they endure self-denial and experience bitter disappointments;

but their painful experience teaches them the guilt and woe of sin,

and they look upon it with abhorrence.

Being partakers of Christ's sufferings, they are destined to be partakers of His glory.
