인간성을 이해하는 일

 

인간의 마음을 변화시키고자 하는 자는 먼저 인간성에 대해 알아야 한다. 

사람의 마음은 동정, 믿음, 그리고 사랑을 통해서만 감동을 받고 향상된다. 

이런 점에서, 그리스도께서는 크신 교사로서의 자격을 구비하셨다고 말할 수 있다. 

왜냐하면 일찍이 세상에서 그분처럼 인간의 심령에 대하여 완전히 이해한 사람은

없었기 때문이다.

 

특별히 약해 보이는 사람들을 다루는 데는 필요한 과학이 있다. 

다른 사람들을 가르치려면 우리 자신이 먼저 그리스도에게 배워야 한다. 

우리는 참된 의료선교 사업을 하고 사람들의 마음을 다룰 때에 재치 있도록

넓은 식견을 가질 필요가 있다.

 

도움을 제일 적게 필요로 하는 사람들이 우리의 관심을 가장 많이 받아야 할 사람일 경우가 많다. 우리는 예의 범절을 모르고 분별력이 없는 것처럼 보이는 사람들을 다룰 때에

특별한 지혜를 보일 필요가 있다. 

 

어떤 사람들은 하나님의 사업의 신성성을 깨닫지 못한다. 

 

재능이 적고 분별력이 없는 사람들, 심지어 나태한 사람들에게도

특별히 세심하고 신앙심 깊은 배려가 필요된다. 

우리는 무지하고 길을 벗어난 것처럼 보이는 자들을 다룰 때에 기지를 발휘해야 한다. 

그들을 위하여 인내심 있는 노력을 기울임으로써

우리는 그들이 주님의 사업에서 쓸모 있는 사람이 되도록 도와야 한다. 

그들은 참을성이 있고 부드럽고 사랑스러운 관심에 선뜻 반응할 것이다.

 

우리는 무능하고 그릇 행하는 자들을 지성과 순결로 회복시키는 일에 있어서

주 예수님과 협동해야 한다. 

이 일은 그 중요성에 있어서 복음 사역과 동등하다. 

우리는 거룩히 다듬어지는 것이 필요한 사람들의 구원에 있어서

지칠 줄 모르고 참을성 있는 관심을 나타내도록 하나님의 부르심을 받고 있다.

 

 

Understanding Humanity

 

He who seeks to transform humanity must himself understand humanity.

Only through sympathy, faith, and love can men be reached and uplifted.

Here Christ stands revealed as the Master Teacher; of all that ever dwelt on the earth,

He alone has perfect understanding of the human soul.

 

There is a science in dealing with those who seem especially weak.

If we would teach others, we ourselves must first learn of Christ.

We need broad views,

that we may do true medical missionary work and show tact in dealing with minds.

 

Those who are really the least in need of help

are likely to receive the most of our attention.

But we need to show special wisdom

in dealing with those who seem inconsiderate and thoughtless.

 

Some do not comprehend the sacredness of the work of God.

 

Those of the least ability, the thoughtless, and even the indolent,

especially demand careful, prayerful consideration.

We must exercise tact in dealing with those who seem to be ignorant and out of the way. By persevering effort in their behalf

we must help them to become useful in the Lord's work.

They will respond readily to a patient, tender, loving interest.

 

We are to cooperate with the Lord Jesus in restoring the inefficient

and the erring to intelligence and purity.

This work ranks equally in importance with the work of the gospel ministry.

We are called upon by God

to manifest an untiring, patient interest in the salvation of those who need divine polishing.
