복음의 진수(眞髓)는 회복이다

 

고대 이스라엘의 안내자요 교사이셨던 그리스도께서는

건강이 하나님의 법을 순종하는 데 대한 대가임을 그들에게 가르치셨다.

 

팔레스틴에서 병자를 고치시던 크신 의원께서는

구름 기둥 가운데서 당신의 백성에게 저희가 무엇을 해야 하고

하나님께서 그들을 위하여 무엇을 하실 것인지를 그들에게 말씀하셨다.

그분은 말씀하시기를

“너희가 너희 하나님 나 여호와의 말을 청종하고,

나의 보기에 의를 행하며,

내 계명에 귀를 기울이며,

내 모든 규례를 지키면,

내가 애굽 사람에게 내린 모든 질병의 하나도 너희에게 내리지 아니하리니

나는 너희를 치료하는 여호와임이니라” 고 하셨다. (출 15：26)

그리스도께서는 이스라엘 백성에게 생활 습관에 관한 분명한 교훈을 주시고

“여호와께서 또 모든 질병을 네게서 멀리 하”시 리라고 보증하셨다. (신 7：15)

저희가 그 조건들을 이행했을 때에 주어진 약속은 그들에게 확실하게 이루어졌고

“그 지파 중에 약한 자가 하나도 없었” 다. (시 105：37)

 

이 교훈은 우리를 위한 것이다.

건강을 유지하려고 하는 사람들은 모두 다 지켜야 할 조건들이 있다.

모든 사람은 이 조건들이 무엇인지를 알아야 한다.

 

주께서는 자연적이거나 영적이거나 간에 당신의 법에 대하여 알지 못하기를 원치 않으신다.

우리는 심령의 건강은 물론 육체의 건강을 회복하기 위해서도

하나님과 함께 일하는 일꾼들이 되어야 한다.

우리들은 건강을 유지하고 회복시키는 법을 다른 사람들에게 가르쳐 주어야 한다.

 

병자들을 위하여 우리는 하나님께서 자연 가운데 마련해 두신 치유법을 사용해야 하고

또 그들에게 저들의 병을 회복시킬 수 있는 분을 가르쳐 주어야 한다.

병자와 고통당하는 자들을 믿음의 팔로 안아 그들을 그리스도께 소개하는 것이 우리가 할 일이다.

우리는 그들에게 크신 의원을 믿도록 가르쳐야 한다.

우리는 그분의 약속을 붙잡아야 하며, 그분이 능력을 나타내시도록 기도해야 한다.

 

복음의 진수(眞髓)는 회복이다.

그러므로 구주께서는 우리들이 병자와 소망 없는 자와 고통당하는 자들에게

그리스도의 능력을 붙잡도록 권하기를 바라신다.

 

 

The Very Essence of the Gospel is Restoration

 

Christ had been the guide and teacher of ancient Israel, and He taught them that health is the reward of obedience to the laws of God. The Great Physician who healed the sick in Palestine had spoken to His people from the pillar of cloud, telling them what they must do, and what God would do for them. "If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God," He said, "and wilt do that which is right in His sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee." Ex. 15:26. Christ gave to Israel definite instruction in regard to their habits of life, and He assured them, "The Lord will take away from thee all sickness." Deut. 7:15. When they fulfilled the conditions, the promise was verified to them. "There was not one feeble person among their tribes." Ps. 105:37.

These lessons are for us. There are conditions to be observed by all who would preserve health. All should learn what these conditions are. The Lord is not pleased with ignorance in regard to His laws, either natural or spiritual. We are to be workers together with God for the restoration of health to the body as well as to the soul.

And we should teach others how to preserve and to recover health. For the sick we should use the remedies which God has provided in nature, and we should point them to Him who alone can restore. It is our work to present the sick and suffering to Christ in the arms of our faith. We should teach them to believe in the Great Healer. We should lay hold on His promise, and pray for the manifestation of His power. The very essence of the gospel is restoration, and the Saviour would have us bid the sick, the hopeless, and the afflicted take hold upon His strength. Desires of Ages, 824-5.
