전능자의 방패 아래 일하게 될 것

 

그리스도께서 제자들에게 내 이름으로 나아가, 믿는 사람을 모두 교회로 모으라고 말씀하셨을 때에, 그분은 단순성을 유지해야 할 필요를 그들에게 분명히 제시하신 것이다.

허식과 자랑을 적게 하면 할수록 선을 위한 그들의 감화는 더욱 클 것이었다.

제자들은 그리스도께서 말씀하신 것과 동일한 단순성을 가지고 말해야 하였다.

그들은 예수께서 가르치셨던 그 교훈을 가지고 청중들에게 감명을 끼쳐야 하였다.

 

그리스도께서는 그의 제자들에게 그 사업이 쉬울 것이라고 말씀하지 않으셨다.

그분은 그들을 대항하는 거대한 악의 연합을 보여 주셨다.

그들은 “정사와 권세와 이 어둠의 세상 주관자들과 하늘에 있는 악의 영들” 과 싸워야 했다. (엡 6:12)

 

그러나 그들은 홀로 싸우도록 버려둔 바 되지 않을 것이었다.

그분은 당신께서 그들과 함께 할 것이며,

그들이 믿음으로 나아간다면 전능자의 방패 아래 일하게 될 것이라고 보증하셨다.

그분은 그들에게 용감하고 강건하라고 명하셨는데,

이는 천사들보다 더 강하신 하늘의 군대 장관이 그 대열에 함께 계실 것이기 때문이었다.

그분은 그들의 사업에 따를 박해에 대처할 만반의 준비를 갖추어 놓으셨고,

사업의 성공을 친히 책임지셨다.

그분의 말씀을 순종하고, 그분과 연합하여 일하는 한 그들은 실패할 수 없었다.

 

그분은 그들에게 다음과 같이 명하셨다.

 

모든 나라에 가라.

사람이 사는 세상 끝까지 가라. 그리고 내가 그곳까지 그대들과 함께 하리라는 것을 확신하라.

그대들을 버리는 때는 결코 없으리니 믿음과 확신을 가지고 일하라.

내가 너희와 항상 함께하여,

의무를 수행하는 너희를 도와주고 지도하고, 위로하고 성화하게 하고, 붙잡아 주고

다른 사람들로 그들의 시선을 하늘로 향하게 할 수 있는 기별을 전하는 일에 성공하게 할 것이다.

 

Work Under the Shield of Omnipotence

When Christ said to the disciples, Go forth in My name to gather into the church all who believe, He plainly set before them the necessity of maintaining simplicity. The less ostentation and show, the greater would be their influence for good. The disciples were to speak with the same simplicity with which Christ had spoken. They were to impress upon their hearers the lessons He had taught them.

Christ did not tell His disciples that their work would be easy. He showed them the vast confederacy of evil arrayed against them. They would have to fight "against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12. But they would not be left to fight alone. He assured them that He would be with them; and that if they would go forth in faith, they should move under the shield of Omnipotence. He bade them be brave and strong; for one mightier than angels would be in their ranks--the General of the armies of heaven. He made full provision for the prosecution of their work and took upon Himself the responsibility of its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him, they could not fail. Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe and be assured that My presence will be with you even there. Labor in faith and confidence; for the time will never come when I will forsake you. I will be with you always, helping you to perform your duty, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven. Acts of Apostles, 28-9.
