THE ELEVENTH HOUR

Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. -Isaiah 2:4

World War I has been ranked by many as one of the deadliest conflicts in human history. Millions lost their lives in the first global modern war. on November 11, 1918, a ceasefire was observed on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. During that historic moment, millions around the world observed moments of silence while they reflected upon the war’s terrible cost-the loss of life and suffering. It was hoped that “the Great War,” as it was called, would truly be “the war that would end all wars.” Despite the many deadly military conflicts that have followed, the hope for lasting peace has not faded. And the Bible offers a hopeful and realistic promise that someday wars will finally end. When Christ returns, Isaiah’s prophecy will come true: “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (Isa. 2:4). Then the eleventh hour will pass and the first hour of lasting peace in a new heaven and new earth will begin. Until that day comes, those who follow Christ are to be people who represent the Prince of Peace in the way we conduct our lives and in the way we make a difference in our world. -Dennis Fisher

열한 번째 시간

이 나라와 저 나라가 다시는 칼을 들고 서로 치지 아니하며 다시는 전쟁을 연습하지 아니하리라-이사야 2:4

제1차 세계대전은 여러 사람들에 의해 인류 역사상에서 가장 격렬했던 분쟁 중의 하나로 분류됩니다. 이 첫 번째 세계적인 현대식 전쟁에서 수백만 명이 목숨을 잃었습니다. 1918년 11월 11일, 열한 번째 달의 열한 번째 날의 열한 번째 시간에 휴전협정이 체결되었습니다. 전 세계의 수백만 사람들이 전쟁의 끔찍한 대가인 인명 희생과 고통을 회고하며 그 역사적인 순간을 말없이 지켜보았습니다. “거대한 전쟁”이라고 불렸던 만큼, 그 전쟁이 진정 “모든 전쟁을 종식시킬 전쟁”이 되리라는 기대가 있었습니다. 그 뒤로도 여러 번 격렬한 군사 분쟁이 잇따랐지만, 항구적인 평화에 대한 희망은 사라지지 않았습니다. 성경은 언젠가 전쟁이 마침내 끝날 것이라는 희망적이며 현실적인 약속을 해줍니다. 그리스도께서 다시 오실 때, “이 나라와 저 나라가 다시는 칼을 들고 서로 치지 아니하며 다시는 전쟁을 연습하지 아니하리라”(사 2:4)라는 이사야의 예언이 실현될 것입니다. 그 때 열한 번째 시간이 지나갈 것이며, 새 하늘과 새 땅에서의 영원한 평화의 첫 시간이 시작될 것입니다. 그 날이 올 때까지, 그리스도를 따르는 사람들은 이 세상을 살아가는 방법에서, 그리고 이 세상에서 구별됨을 이루어가는 방법에서 평강의 왕이신 주님을 대표하는 사람들이 되어야 합니다.

죄로 어두운 이 세상에 평화, 완전한 평화가? 예수님의 보혈이 주님 안에 평화가 있다고 속삭이네 전혀 알지 못하는 우리의 앞날에 평화, 완전한 평화가? 우리는 예수님을 안다네, 그 주님이 보좌에 계시네

그리스도 안에서만 진정한 평화가 이루어질 수 있다.
