COVERING SINKHOLES

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. -Psalm 32:1

In late May 2010, tropical storm Agatha hit Central America, producing torrential rains and landslides. once it finished its course, a 200-footdeep sinkhole opened in downtown Guatemala City. This sinkhole caused the ground to collapse suddenly, sucking land, electrical poles, and a 3-story building into the depths of the earth. Though sinkholes can be devastating, the most universal and damaging sinkhole is the one that happens in the human heart. King David was an example of this. The surface of David’s life looked stable; however, his interior life rested on a fragile foundation. After his sins of adultery and murder, David thought he had successfully hidden his treacherous acts (2 Sam. 11?2). However, God’s intense conviction after Nathan’s confrontation caused him to realize that denying the presence of sin in his life weakened the foundation of his spiritual life. To prevent this spiritual sinkhole from worsening, David acknowledged his sin to God in repentance (Ps. 32:5). As a result, God covered David’s sin and gave him the joy of forgiveness. We too will experience God’s grace when we confess our sins to Him. He will completely forgive and cover our spiritual sinkholes. -Marvin Williams

허물의 사함을 받고 자신의 죄가 가려진 자는 복이 있도다-시편 32:1

2010년 오월의 끝 무렵에 열대폭풍우 ‘아가사’가 중미를 강타하면서 집중호우와 산사태를 불러왔습니다. 폭풍우가 다 지나간 후, 과테말라시 도심에는 60미터 깊이의 커다란 싱크홀(땅이 꺼진 구덩이)이 생겼습니다. 이 구덩이로 인해 지반이 갑자기 무너지면서, 토지, 전봇대, 그리고 3층 빌딩이 땅속 깊이 빨려들어 갔습니다. 이 움푹 파인 구덩이의 파괴력이 엄청나다해도, 가장 보편적이면서도 가장 파괴력이 있는 구덩이는 사람의 마음에 생기는 구덩이입니다. 다윗 왕이 한 예입니다. 겉으로 보이는 다윗의 삶은 안정적이었습니다. 그러나 그의 내적 삶은 부서지기 쉬운 기반에 의지하고 있었습니다. 간음과 살인죄를 저지르고 난 후, 다윗은 자신의 기만적인 행위(삼하 11-12장)가 성공적으로 잘 은폐했다고 생각했습니다. 그러나 나단을 만난 후 받은 하나님의 엄중한 유죄 판결은, 자신의 삶에 죄가 있다는 사실을 부인하는 것이야말로 자신의 영적 삶의 기반을 약하게 한다는 것을 깨닫게 해주었습니다. 영적인 구멍이 더 심각해지는 것을 막기 위해 다윗은 자신의 죄를 하나님께 회개하며 고백했습니다(시 32:5). 그 결과 하나님은 다윗의 죄를 가려주시고 그에게 용서받는 기쁨을 주셨습니다. 우리도 우리의 죄를 자백할 때 하나님의 은혜를 경험하게 됩니다. 하나님은 완전히 용서해주시고 우리의 영적인 구멍도 메워주실 것입니다.

생각해 봅시다 어떤 습관적인 죄나 남모르는 중독이나 숨겨진 약점이 당신의 내적 삶을 연약하게 합니까? 하나님은 당신에게 완전한 용서를 주고 싶어 하신다는 것을 기억하십시오.

우리가 죄를 숨기지 않고 회개하면 하나님께서 죄를 가려주실 것이다.
