HELPERS NEEDED

The Helper, the Holy Spirit, . . . will teach you all things. -John 14:26

To some people, the term helper carries with it second-class connotations. Classroom helpers assist trained teachers in their classes. Helpers assist trained electricians, plumbers, and lawyers on the job. Because they aren’t as skilled in the profession, they might be viewed as having less value. But everyone is needed to accomplish the task. The apostle Paul had many helpers in his work of ministry. He listed them in his letter to Rome (ch.16). He made special reference to Phoebe, who “has been a helper of many and of myself also” (v.2). Priscilla and Aquila risked their own lives for Paul (vv.3-4). And Mary, Paul said, “labored much for us” (v.6). Helping is a spiritual gift, according to 1 Corinthians 12:28. Paul listed it among the gifts from the Holy Spirit that are given to believers in Christ’s body, the church. The gift of “helps” is just as needed as the others that are listed. Even the Holy Spirit is called a “Helper.” Jesus said, “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, . . . will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26). In whatever ways the Holy Spirit, the Helper, has gifted you, let Him use you for His honor. -Anne Cetas

Dear Lord, thank You for the gifts You have given me so that I might serve the body of Christ. Help me to be faithful to use my gifts to bring You glory.

보혜사 곧…성령 그가 너희에게 모든 것을 가르치고-요한복음 14:26

어떤 사람들에게는 보조자라는 용어가 2류라는 의미를 갖습니다. 강의중 보조자들은 훈련된 교사들을 돕습니다. 보조자들은 잘 훈련된 전기공, 배관공, 그리고 변호사들을 돕는 일을 합니다. 그들은 전문성에서는 숙련되지 않았기 때문에 가치가 적어 보일 수 있습니다. 그러나 일을 완수하기 위해서는 모든 사람이 필요합니다. 바울사도의 목회사역에도 많은 보조자들이 있었습니다. 그가 로마로 보낸 편지에 그들의 이름을 열거했습니다(16장). 바울은 “여러 사람과 나의 보호자가 되었던”(2절) 뵈뵈에 대하여 특별히 언급하였습니다. 브리스가와 아굴라는 바울을 위해 자신의 목숨까지 내놓은 사람들이었습니다(3-4절). 그리고 마리아에 대해서도 “너희를 위하여 많이 수고”(6절)했다고 말했습니다. 고린도전서 12장 28절에 의하면, 돕는 것은 영적 은사입니다. 바울은 돕는 것을 그리스도의 몸 된 교회 안의 믿는 이들에게 성령께서 주신 은사들 가운데 하나로 나열했습니다. “돕는” 은사는 열거된 다른 은사들과 마찬가지로 꼭 필요한 은사입니다. 심지어 성령님도 “보혜사(보조자)”로 불립니다. 예수님은 “보혜사 곧…성령 그가 너희에게 모든 것을 가르치고 내가 너희에게 말한 모든 것을 생각나게 하리라”(요 14:26)라고 말씀하셨습니다. 보혜사 성령께서 당신에게 어떤 은사를 주셨든, 주님이 자신의 영광을 위하여 당신을 사용하게 하십시오.

사랑하는 주님, 그리스도의 몸 된 교회를 섬기도록 하기 위해 제게 은사를 주시니 감사합니다. 하나님께 영광을 돌려드리기 위해 제가 받은 은사를 신실하게 사용하도록 도와주소서.

당신은 전체에서 없어서는 안 될 꼭 필요한 한 부분이다.
