자연법칙을 순종함

연약하고 고통을 겪고 있는 자들은 경계에 경계를, 교훈에 교훈을, 여기서도 조금 저기서도 조금 교육을 받음으로 하나님께서 인간 유기체를 지배하도록 만드신 법칙을 존중하고 그에 순종하며 살아야 한다. 지식과 빛을 거스르고 죄를 범하며, 약을 주는 의사들의 기술에 자주 의존하는 이들은 생명에 대한 그들의 장악력을 계속 상실하게 될 것이다. 약물은 자연을 도와주는 게 아니라 계속해서 그 노력을 마비시킨다.…

그들은 먹고 마시는 이전 습관에 대해 질문하지 않으며, 수년에 걸쳐서 질병의 기초를 놓는 그들의 그릇된 습관에 각별한 주의를 기울이지 않는다. 양심적인 의사는 무지한 자들을 계몽할 준비가 되어 있어야 하며, 지혜롭게 처방해야 한다. 의사가 잘못된 것으로 알고 있는 것들을 그들의 식사에서 금지시켜야 한다.

의사는 건강 법칙에 방해가 된다고 여기는 것들에 대해서 분명하게 말하고, 고통을 겪고 있는 이들이 스스로 할 수 있는 것들을 세심하게 행할 수 있도록 함으로 생명과 건강 법칙들의 올바른 관계 속에 그들을 두도록 해야 한다. 계몽된 양심에 따라 그들이 스스로의 건강을 지키기 위해서 어떻게 해야 하는지를 알고 최선을 다할 때, 그들은 영혼뿐 아니라 신체의 치료자이신 위대한 의사를 믿음으로 바라보게 될 것이다.

우리는 건강 개혁자이다. 의사는 지혜와 경험이 있어야 하며, 철저한 건강 개혁자가 되어야 한다. 그때에 그들은 교훈과 모본을 통해 약품 사용에 관하여 그들의 환자들을 부단히 교육하기 될 것이다. 그들은 약품 사용이 얼마 동안은 좋은 결과를 내지만 그 후에 큰 장애를 일으킬 것을 기관에 심어 놓는다는 것을 잘 알고 있기 때문이다. 평생 동안 저들은 거기에서 회복하지 못할 수도 있다. 자연 스스로의 작용력을 발휘할 수 있는 기회가 있어야 한다. 장애물이 제거되고 그 치유력을 행사할 수 있도록 기회가 주어져야 한다. 만일 모든 남용이 제거되고 자연이 좋은 기회를 맞이한다면, 자연은 분명하게 행할 것이다. – 의료봉사, 224-5.

Obedience to Nature’s Laws

The feeble and suffering ones must be educated line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little, until they will have respect for and live in obedience to the law that God has made to control the human organism. Those who sin against knowledge and light, and resort to the skill of a physician in administering drugs, will be constantly losing their hold on life. The less there is of drug dosing, the more favorable will be their recovery to health. Drugs, in the place of helping nature, are constantly paralyzing her efforts....

They do not inquire into their former habits of eating and drinking, and take special notice of their erroneous habits which have been for many years laying the foundation of disease. Conscientious physicians should be prepared to enlighten those who are ignorant, and should with wisdom make out their prescriptions, prohibiting those things in their diet which he knows to be erroneous.

He should plainly state the things which he regards as detrimental to the laws of health, and leave these suffering ones to work conscientiously to do those things for themselves which they can do, and thus place themselves in right relation to the laws of life and health. When from an enlightened conscience they do the very best they know how to do to preserve themselves in health, then in faith they may look to the Great Physician, who is a healer of the body as well as of the soul.

We are health reformers. Physicians should have wisdom and experience, and be thorough health reformers. Then they will be constantly educating by precept and example their patients from drugs. For they well know that the use of drugs may produce for the time being favorable results, but will implant in the system that which will cause great difficulties hereafter, which they may never recover from during their lifetime. Nature must have a chance to do her work. Obstructions must be removed and opportunity given her to exert her healing forces, which she will surely do, if every abuse is removed from her and she has a fair chance. – Medical Ministry, 224-5.
