씨를 뿌리는 일은 일종의 신앙행위

씨를 뿌리는 일은 일종의 신앙행위이다.

씨가 발아해서 성장하는 신비를 씨를 뿌리는 자가 이해할 수 없으나

그는 초목을 무성하게 하시는 하나님의 능력을 확신한다.

농부가 씨를 땅에 뿌릴 때에는 마치 자기 가족들이 먹고 살 귀중한 곡식을 던져 버리는 것같이 보인다.

그러나 그는 단지 더 많은 것을 수확하기 위하여 현재의 좋은 씨를 던져 버리는 것이다.

그는 여러 갑절의 수확을 바라면서 씨를 뿌린다.

그와 같이 그리스도의 종들도 저희가 뿌린 씨로부터 수확을 기대하면서 일하여야 한다.

좋은 씨도 얼마 동안은 냉담하고 이기적이고 세속적인 마음속에 들어가

전혀 눈에 띄지 않게 떨어져 있을 수 있다.

그 씨는 그것이 뿌리를 내렸다는 증거를 보이지 않는다.

그러나 얼마 후에 하나님의 영이 그의 마음속에 생기를 불어넣으면

묻혀 있던 씨는 싹이 나서 마침내 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 열매를 맺는다.

우리가 하는 필생의 사업을 통해 어느 것이 잘 될는지를 알지 못한다.

이것은 우리가 해결해야 할 문제가 아니다.

우리가 해야 할 일을 다 한 후에 그 결과는 하나님께 맡겨야 된다.

“너는 아침에 씨를 뿌리고 저녁에도 손을 거두지 말라”(전 11:6).

또한 하나님의 크신 언약은 “땅이 있을 동안에는 심음과 거둠…이 쉬지 아니하리라”(창 8:22)고 선언한다.

이와 같은 언약을 믿고 농부들은 밭을 갈고 씨를 뿌린다.

영적인 파종에 있어서도 이에 못지않은 확신이 있어야 한다.

“내 입에서 나가는 말도 헛되이 내게로 돌아오지 아니하고 나의 뜻을 이루며

나의 명하여 보낸 일에 형통하리라”(사 55:11),

“울며 씨를 뿌리러 나가는 자는 정녕 기쁨으로 그 단을 가지고 돌아오리로다”(시 126:6)라는 약속들을 믿고

일해야 한다.

The Work of the Sower is a Work of Faith

The work of the sower is a work of faith. The mystery of the germination and growth of the seed he cannot understand. But he has confidence in the agencies by which God causes vegetation to flourish.

In casting his seed into the ground, he is apparently throwing away the precious grain that might furnish bread for his family. But he is only giving up a present good for a larger return.

He casts the seed away, expecting to gather it manyfold in an abundant harvest. So Christ’s servants are to labor, expecting a harvest from the seed they sow.

 The good seed may for a time lie unnoticed in a cold, selfish, worldly heart, giving no evidence that it has taken root; but afterward, as the Spirit of God breathes on the soul, the hidden seed springs up, and at last bears fruit to the glory of God.

In our lifework we know not which shall prosper, this or that. This is not a question for us to settle. We are to do our work, and leave the results with God. “Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle.” Ecclesiastes 11:6.

God’s great covenant declares that “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest... will never cease.” Genesis 8:22. In the confidence of this promise the husbandman tills and sows.

Not less confidently are we in the spiritual sowing to labor, trusting His assurance, “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:11. “Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.” Psalm 126:6.
