겸손의 위대함

“사람의 모양으로 나타나셨으매 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니

곧 십자가에 죽으심이라”(빌 2:8).

그리스도께서는 크신 겸비가운데 오시었다.

그가 세상에 계셨을 때에 자신을 기쁘게 하지 아니하시고

“자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라.”

그는 당신을 따르는 자들에게

”나는 마음이 온유하고 겸손하니 나의 멍에를 메고 내게 배우라

그러면 너희 마음이 쉼을 얻으리”(마 11:29)라고 말씀하신다.…

참된 겸손의 뿌리로부터 가장 귀중한 마음의 위대함이 솟아나는 바

그것은 곧 사람으로 그리스도의 형상을 닮도록 인도하는 위대함이다.

이 위대함을 소유하고 있는 자들은 인내와 하나님께 대한 신뢰를 갖게 된다.

그들의 믿음은 정복할 수 없다.

그들의 참된 헌신과 신앙심 속에는 자신을 나타냄이 없다.

그들의 입술로부터 나오는 말은 그리스도와 같은 온유함과 사랑을 품는다.

저희 자신의 연약함을 알므로 저들은 바르고 참되게 행하기 위하여

주님께서 주시는 도우심을 감사하고 주님의 은혜를 갈망한다.

그들의 방법과 태도, 그리고 그들의 정신으로

그들은 자신들이 그리스도의 학교에서 배우고 있는 자들임을 나타낸다.

The Greatness of Humility

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8.

Christ came in great humility. When He was here He pleased not Himself, but “humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” To His followers He says, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:29)....

> From the root of true humility springs the most precious greatness of mind—greatness which leads men to conform to the image of Christ.

Those who possess this greatness gain patience and trust in God. Their faith is invincible. Their true consecration and devotion keep self hidden. The words that fall from their lips are molded into ｅxpressions of Christlike tenderness and love.

Having a sense of their own weakness, they appreciate the help which the Lord gives them, and they crave His grace that they may do that which is right and true. By their manner, their attitude, and their spirit, they carry with them the credentials of learners in the school of Christ.
