믿음과 행함은 동반됨

“내가 무엇을 하여야 영생을 얻으리이까?” 

예수님께서는 자기의 백성을 죄에서 구원하시기 위해 돌아가셨다.

그러므로 그리스도의 구속은

하나님의 율법을 더 이상 범하지 않는다는 것과 모든 죄악으로부터 자유케 된다는 것을 의미한다. 
따라서 하나님의 율법에 대하여 저항하는 마음을 품는 어떠한 심령도

우주 앞에서 율법을 옹호하고 존귀케 하시기 위하여 갈바리에서 고통을 당하신

그리스도와 조화를 이루지 못한다. 

우리가 하나님의 율법과 조화를 이루어야 하는 반면에 우리는 율법의 행위로 구원을 얻을 수 없다.

그런가 하면 우리는 순종 없이 구원을 받을 수도 없다.

율법은 품성을 측정하는 표준이다.

그러나 우리는 중생케하는 그리스도의 은혜 없이 하나님의 계명을 지킬 수 없다. 

오직 예수님만이 우리를 모든 죄에서 깨끗하게 하실 수 있다.

그분은 율법으로 우리를 구원하지 않으시며, 율법을 불순종할 때도 우리를 구원하지 않으실 것이다. 

그리스도에 대한 우리의 사랑은 우리가 죄를 깨닫는 정도에 비례할 것이다.

그리고 율법으로 죄를 깨닫게 된다.

그러나 우리 자신을 알게 될 때

우리를 모든 불의에서 구속하시기 위해 자신을 우리에게 주신 예수님을 끊임없이 바라보도록 하자.

믿음으로 그리스도의 공로를 붙잡으라.

그러면 영혼을 깨끗케 하는 보혈이 우리에게 적용될 것이다. . .

아담의 시대와 마찬가지로 죄는 오늘날도 꼭같이 악성이다. 

복음은 하나님의 율법을 아무런 뉘우침 없이 범하는 어떤 사람들에게도

하나님의 은총을 주겠다고 약속하지 않는다. 

인간의 마음의 타락, 범죄의 형벌, 죄의 파멸은

그리스도께서 우리에게 피할 길을 열어주신 십자가를 통하여 모두 분명해졌다.

Faith and Works- Hand in Hand

“What shall I do to Inherit Eternal Life?” 

Jesus died to save His people from their sins, and redemption in Christ means to cease the transgression of the law of God and to be free from every sin; no heart that is stirred with enmity against the law of God is in harmony with Christ, who suffered on Calvary to vindicate and exalt the law before the universe.

While we are to be in harmony with God’s law, we are not saved by the works of the law, yet we cannot be saved without obedience. The law is the standard by which character is measured. But we cannot possibly keep the commandments of God without the regenerating grace of Christ. 

Jesus alone can cleanse us from all sin. He does not save us by law, neither will He save us in disobedience to law.

Our love to Christ will be in proportion to the depth of our conviction of sin, and by the law is the knowledge of sin. But as we see ourselves, let us look away to Jesus, who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity. By faith take hold of the merits of Christ, and the soul-cleansing blood will be applied. . .

Today sin is the same malignant thing that it was in the time of Adam. The gospel does not promise the favor of God to anyone who in impenitence breaks His law. 

The depravity of the human heart, the guilt of transgression, the ruin of sin, are all made plain by the cross where Christ has made for us a way of escape.
