성경을 스스로 연구함

하나님의 말씀을 연구하는 것보다 더 정신에 활력을 주며 지능을 강화시킬 것으로 기대할 만한 것은

아무것도 없다. 

성경의 광범위하고 고귀한 진리만큼 사상을 고결하게 하고 모든 기능에 활력을 주는 효력이 큰 책은

또 다시 없다. 

만약 하나님의 말씀을 바른 원칙을 따라 연구한다면

사람들은 이 시대에 보기 드문 정신적 관용과 품성의 고귀함과 목적의 안정성을 가지게 될 것이다. 

진리를 위한 탐구는 언제나 탐구자에게 보상을 줄 것이며

새로운 진리를 발견할 때마다 그에게 보다 광범위한 연구 분야를 제시해 줄 것이다. 

하나님께 대한 지식은 정신적인 노력과 지혜를 얻기 위한 기도가 없이는 얻을 수 없다...

하나님의 말씀은 빛이요 진리이며 발에 등이 되고 길에 빛이 된다. 
이 말씀은 하나님의 도성으로 가는 길의 모든 단계를 안내할 수 있다. 
이런 까닭으로 사탄은 주님의 속량을 받은 자들이 행하도록 깔아 놓은 길을 사람들이 찾지 못하도록

빛을 흐리기 위하여 필사적인 노력을 기울여 왔다. 

마치 광부가 땅 속에 있는 금줄기를 캐내는 것처럼

우리들도 하나님의 말씀의 보화를 끈질기게 탐구하지 않으면 안 된다...

매일 한 구절 한 구절 대조하는 방식으로 연구하는 것이 가장 크게 도움이 된다. 

학생이 성경 한 절을 택하여

마치 하나님께서 그 성경절을 자기를 위하여 주신 것처럼 생각하게 할 것이며

그 성경절이 완전히 자기의 것이 될 때까지 깊이 생각하게 하라. 

성경 한 구절의 깊은 뜻을 밝히 깨달을 때까지 성경을 연구하는 방법은

아무런 뚜렷한 목적과 적극적인 지도가 없이 여러 장 절을 읽어 나가는 것보다는

훨씬 가치가 있는 것이다.

Study the Bible for Yoursrlves

There is nothing more calculated to energize the mind and strengthen the intellect than the study of the word of God. No other book is so potent to elevate the thoughts, to give vigor to the faculties, as the broad, ennobling truths of the Bible. 

If God’s word were studied as it should be, men would have a breadth of mind, a nobility of character, and a stability of purpose that are rarely seen in these times. 
The search for truth will reward the seeker at every turn, and each discovery will open up richer fields for his investigation. 

The knowledge of God is not gained without mental effort and prayer for wisdom...

The word of God is light and truth—a lamp to the feet and a light to the path. It is able to guide every step of the way to the city of God. 
For this reason, Satan has made desperate efforts to obscure the light, that men may not find and keep the path cast up for the ransomed of the Lord to walk in.

As the miner digs for the golden treasure in the earth, so earnestly, persistently, must we seek for the treasure of God’s word. 

In daily study the verse-by-verse method is often most helpful. 
Let the student take one verse and concentrate his mind on ascertaining the thought that God has put into that verse for him, and then dwell upon the thought until it becomes his own. 

One passage thus studied until its significance becomes clear is of more value than the perusal of many chapters with no definite purpose in view and no positive instruction gained.
