잠잠하라 고요하라

태풍을 잔잔하게 하신 이적 가운데는 또 하나의 영적 교훈이 있다. 

각 사람의 경험은 “오직 악인은 능히 안정치 못하고…요동하는 바다와 같으니라.

내 하나님의 말씀에 악인에게는 평강이 없다 하셨느니라” (사 57：20, 21)는 성경 말씀의 진리를 증거한다. 

우리의 평화를 파괴한 것은 죄다. 

자아가 정복되지 않을 때 우리는 쉼을 얻을 수 없다.

인간의 힘으로는 마음을 지배하는 격정을 다스릴 수 없다.

제자들이 성난 폭풍을 잔잔하게 하는 데 무력하였던 것처럼 우리도 이 점에는 무력하다. 

그러나 갈릴리 바다의 큰 물결을 향하여 잔잔하라고 말씀하신 그분께서는 각 사람에게 평안하라고 하신다. 

태풍이 아무리 격렬할지라도 “주여 구원하소서” 하고 부르짖으면서

예수께 돌아오는 자들은 구원을 얻을 것이다. 

영혼을 하나님과 화목시키는 그분의 은혜가 인간의 격정으로 인한 분란을 잔잔하게 하므로

그분의 사랑 안에서 마음은 평안함을 얻는다. 

“광풍을 평정히 하사 물결로 잔잔케 하시는도다

저희가 평온함을 인하여 기뻐하는 중에 여호와께서 저희를 소원의 항구로 인도하시는도다”(시 107：29, 30). 

“그러므로 우리가 믿음으로 의롭다 하심을 얻었은즉

우리 주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님으로 더불어 화평을 누리자”, (롬 5：1)

“의의 공효는 화평이요 의의 결과는 영원한 평안과 안전이라” (사 32：17)

Peace, Be Still

There is another spiritual lesson in this miracle of the stilling of the tempest. 

Every man’s experience testifies to the truth of the words of Scripture, “The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest.... There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.” Isaiah 57:20, 21. 

Sin has destroyed our peace. 

While self is unsubdued, we can find no rest. The masterful passions of the heart no human power can control. We are as helpless here as were the disciples to quiet the raging storm. 

But He who spoke peace to the billows of Galilee has spoken the word of peace for every soul. 

However fierce the tempest, those who turn to Jesus with the cry, “Lord, save us,” will find deliverance. 

His grace, that reconciles the soul to God, quiets the strife of human passion, and in His love the heart is at rest. 

“He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. Then are they glad because they be quiet; so He bringeth them unto their desired haven.”  

Psalm 107:29, 30. 

“Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 

“The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance forever.” 

Romans 5:1; Isaiah 32:17.
