그리스도를 통하여 생명을 주는 열매는 우리의 것이다

에덴동산의 생명나무의 열매는 초자연적인 효능을 가지고 있었다.

그것을 먹으면 영원히 살게 되어 있었다.

그 열매는 죽음의 해독제였다.

그 잎사귀들은 생명의 지탱과 불멸을 위한 것이었다.

그러나 사람의 불순종 때문에 죽음이 세상에 들어왔다.

아담은 선악을 알게 하는 나무, 그에게 만지지 못하도록 금지되었던 열매를 먹었다.

그의 범죄는 우리 인류에게 불행의 수문을 열었다.

 죄가 들어온 후 하늘의 농부께서는 생명의 나무를 하늘의 낙원으로 옮겨 심으셨다.

그러나 그 가지는 담을 넘어 아래 세상으로 늘어졌다.

그리스도의 피로 이루어진 구속을 통하여 우리는 여전히 생명을 주는 그 열매를 먹을 수 있게 된 것이다.

그리스도에 관하여 이렇게 기록되어 있다.

“그 안에 생명이 있었으니 이 생명은 사람들의 빛이라”(요 1:4).

그분은 생명의 근원이시다. 그분께 순종하면 영혼을 기쁘게 하는 생명력이 주어진다.

그리스도께서는 선언하신다.

“내가 곧 생명의 떡이니 내게 오는 자는 결코 주리지 아니할 터이요

나를 믿는 자는 영원히 목마르지 아니하리라.” (요 6:35),

“살아계신 아버지께서 나를 보내시매 내가 아버지로 인하여 사는 것 같이

나를 먹는 그 사람도 나로 인하여 살리라…살리는 것은 영이니 육은 무익하니라

내가 너희에게 이른 말이 영이요 생명이라.”  (요6:57~63),

“이기는 그에게는 내가 하나님의 낙원에 있는 생명나무의 과실을 주어 먹게 하리라” (계 2:7).

Life-Giving Fruit Ours Through Christ

The fruit of the tree of life in the Garden of Eden possessed supernatural virtue. To eat of it was to live forever. Its fruit was the antidote of death. Its leaves were for the sustaining of life and immortality. But through man’s disobedience, death entered the world. Adam ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the fruit of which he had been forbidden to touch. His transgression opened the floodgates of woe upon our race. 

 After the entrance of sin, the heavenly Husbandman transplanted the tree of life to the Paradise above; but its branches hang over the wall to the lower world. Through the redemption purchased by the blood of Christ, we may still eat of its life-giving fruit. 

 Of Christ it is written, “In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” He is the fountain of life. Obedience to Him is the life-giving power that gladdens the soul. 

 Christ declares: “I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst” [John 6:57, 63; Revelation 2:7, last part, quoted].
