자아와의 치열한 싸움으로 말미암아 형성된 고상한 품성

그리스도께서는 완전한 품성을 얻는 일이 쉽다는 보증을  주지 않으셨다. 

고상하고 모든 면에 원만한 품성은 물려 받는 것이 아니다. 

고상한 품성은 그리스도의 공로와 은혜를 통한 개인적 노력으로 말미암아 얻어진다.

하나님께서는 재능과 정신력을 주시지만 품성 형성은 우리 가 하는 것이다. 

품성은 자아와 더불어 맹렬하게 싸움으 로써 형성된다. 

타고난 성벽을 끊어 버리기 위하여 거듭 거듭 계속적으로 싸우지 않으면 안 된다. 

우리는 자신을  면밀하게 비판해야 하고 

단 하나의 좋지 않은 성벽도  고쳐지지 않은 채 남아 있게 해서는 안 된다.

 A Noble Character Formed by Stern Battles With Self

Christ has given us no assurance that to attain perfection of character is an easy matter. 

A noble, all-around character is not inherited. 

It does not come to us by accident. 

A noble character is earned by individual effort through the merits and grace of Christ.

God gives the talents, the powers of the mind; we form the character. It is formed by hard, stern battles with self. 

Conflict after conflict must be waged against hereditary tendencies. 

We shall have to criticize ourselves closely and allow not one unfavorable trait to remain uncorrected.
