하나님께 속한 사물에는 더 많은 생각을 기울이고 세속적인 사물에는 더 적게 기울여야 한다. 

만일 세상을 사랑하는 믿음의 공언자가 그 방면에서 그의 정신을 연단했을 것 같으면

그는 지금 세속적인 사업에 정통해 있는 것처럼 하나님의 말씀에 정통할 것이다.

그리스도께서는 “너희가 성경에서 영생을 얻는 줄 생각하고 성경을 상고하거니와

이 성경이 곧 내게 대하여 증거하는 것이로다” (요 5:39) 고 말씀하셨다.

그리스도인은 성경을 탐구하는 일에 부지런하여,

하나님의 말씀의 진리를 거듭거듭 읽으라는 요구를 받고 있다.

이 문제에 관하여 고의적으로 무지해지면 그리스도인의 생애와 품성이 위태로워진다.

그것은 이해력을 눈멀게 하고 가장 고상한 능력을 타락시킨다.

우리의 생애를 혼란에 빠뜨리는 것은 이것이다.

우리의 백성들은 하나님의 명령을 이해할 필요가 있다.
그들은 계시된 진리의 원칙을 조직적으로 알아야 할 필요가 있는데,

그 원칙은 세상에 다가오는 일에 대하여 그들이 적응할 수 있게 해주고,

그들이 모든 교훈의 바람에 밀려 다니지 않도록 방어해 줄 것이다.

More Thought Should be Given to the Things of God

More thought should be given to the things of God, and less to temporal matters. 

The world-loving professor, if he will exercise his mind in that direction, may become as familiar with the word of God as he now is with worldly business. 

“Search the Scriptures,” said Christ; “for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are they which testify of Me.” 

The Christian is required to be diligent in searching the Scriptures, to read over and over again the truths of God’s word. 

Willful ignorance on this subject endangers the Christian life and character. It blinds the understanding and corrupts the noblest powers. It is this that brings confusion into our lives. 

Our people need to understand the oracles of God; they need to have a systematic knowledge of the principles of revealed truth, which will fit them for what is coming upon the earth and prevent them from being carried about by every wind of doctrine.
