참된 성화

참된 성화는 성경상 교리이다.

 

사도 바울은 데살로니가 교회에 보낸 편지에서

“하나님의 뜻은 이것이니 너희의 거룩함이라” (살전 4:3) 고 주장하였다.

그는 또한

“평강의 하나님이 친히 너희로 온전히 거룩하게 하시…기를 원하노라” (살전 5:23) 고 기도하였다. 

성경은 성결이 무엇이며, 그것을 어떻게 얻을 수 있는지 가르쳐 준다.

 

구주께서는 당신의 제자들을 위하여

“저희를 진리로 거룩하게 하옵소서 아버지의 말씀은 진리니이다” (요 17:17) 고 기도하셨다.

바울은 신자들이

“성령 안에서 거룩하게 되” (롬 15:16) 어야 한다고 가르쳤다.

 

그러면 성령께서 하시는 일은 무엇인가?

 

예수께서는 제자들에게

“진리의 성령이 오시면 그가 너희를 모든 진리 가운데로 인도하시리” (요 16:13) 라고 말씀하셨다. 그리고 시편 기자는

“주의 법은 진리로소이다”고 말하였다. 

하나님의 말씀과 성령을 통하여 하나님의 율법에 구현되어 있는 의의 큰 원칙들이

사람들에게 알려진다.

하나님의 율법은 “거룩하며 의로우며 선하”며, 완전하신 하나님을 그대로 나타내주므로

그런 율법에 순종할 때 이루어지는 품성도 또한 거룩하여진다.

 

그리스도는 그런 품성의 완전한 모본이시다.

그분께서는 “내가 아버지의 계명을 지켜” “항상 그의 기뻐하시는 일을 행”한다고(요 15:10, 8:29)

말씀하셨다. 그리스도를 따르는 사람들은 그분과 같이 되어야 한다.

그들은 하나님의 은혜를 힘입어 그분의 거룩한 율법의 원칙과 일치한 품성을 이루어야 한다.

이것이 성경이 가르치는 성화이다.

 

이 일은 오직 그리스도를 믿는 믿음을 통하여

하나님의 영의 내재하시는 능력으로 말미암아서만 성취될 수 있다.

True sanctification

True sanctification is a Bible doctrine. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Thessalonian church, declares: “This is the will of God, even your sanctification.” And he prays: “The very God of peace sanctify you wholly.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3; 5:23. 

The Bible clearly teaches what sanctification is and how it is to be attained. The Saviour prayed for His disciples: “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.” John 17:17. And Paul teaches that believers are to be “sanctified by the Holy Ghost.” Romans 15:16. What is the work of the Holy Spirit? Jesus told His disciples: “When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth.” John 16:13. And the psalmist says: “Thy law is the truth.” 

By the word and the Spirit of God are opened to men the great principles of righteousness embodied in His law. And since the law of God is “holy, and just, and good,” a transcript of the divine perfection, it follows that a character formed by obedience to that law will be holy. Christ is a perfect example of such a character. He says: “I have kept My Father’s commandments.” “I do always those things that please Him.” John 15:10; 8:29. The followers of Christ are to become like Him—by the grace of God to form characters in harmony with the principles of His holy law. This is Bible sanctification. 

This work can be accomplished only through faith in Christ, by the power of the indwelling Spirit of God.
