그대의 마음이 하나님께 머물러 있게 하라

 

 

많은 정직하고 선의의 사람이 예수님을 더욱 계속해서 배울 필요성을 알지 못하기 때문에

 

그리스도인 생애에서 전진하지 못한다.

 

처음 개심했을 때는 주님의 편에 있음을 기뻐한다.

 

일년 뒤에 그는 동일한 증언을 계속하며 그 후에는 영적 성장의 증거가 없으며

 

어린아이와 같이 여전히 연약하다. …

 

새로 개심한 자의 첫 경험은 행복하고 기쁘나 시련이 오고 생애의 고통에 직면하고

 

제어되지 않은 품성의 죗된 기질이 주도권을 잡으려고 아우성치며 너무나도 이런 일이 반복된다.

 

그러면 신뢰와 안정을 잃어버리고 기도하고 성경 읽기를 등한히 하게 된다.

 

그들이 가져야 할 지식과 경험이 부족하기 때문에 많은 사람들은 사단에 의해 정복된다.

 

그들은 유혹들을 식별하거나 그것들을 저항할 방법을 알지 못한다.

 

 

 

예수께서 그대의 조력자가 되신다는 믿음을 가지라.

 

그대 자신의 일을 택하거나 그대 자신의 길을 따라서는 안 된다는 것을 기억하고

 

그대의 지도자와 모범자가 되시는 예수님을 바라보라.

 

그대 앞에 예수님의 모범을 두고 그분 앞에서 기뻐하시는 일이 무엇인지를 끊임없이 물어보라.

 

그분에게서 극기와 자기희생의 교훈들을 배우라. 

 

 

 

매 순간 깨어서 그대의 마음이 하나님께 머물러 있게 하라.

 

그대의 마음이 의복이나 헛된 교만을 생각하지 않게 하라.

 

그대 자신을 부인하고 거룩하게 되며 그대의 마음이 하늘을 생각하게 하고

 

그대의 대화가 또한 하늘에 있게 하라. …

 

그리스도를 따르는 자들은 고통과 극기의 길을 택하지만

 

그들은 이 땅에서 하나님의 인정을 받게 될 것이며 내세에 영광과 불멸과 영생을 얻게 될 것이다.

Keeping Your Mind Stayed Upon God

Many an honest, well-meaning person makes no advancement in the Christian life because he does not see the necessity of constantly learning more of Jesus. When first converted, he rejoices that he has taken his position on the Lord’s side. A year later, he bears the same testimony. There is no evidence of spiritual growth; he is still weak as a child.... The first experience of the new convert is happy and joyous; but trials come; the perplexities of life are to be met; sinful traits of character that have not been controlled, strive for the mastery, and too frequently obtain it. Then come a loss of confidence and peace, neglect of prayer and the reading of the Scriptures. For want of the knowledge and experience which they should have, many are overcome by Satan. They do not know how to discern his temptations, or to resist them....

Have faith in Jesus as your helper. Remember that you are not to choose your own work, or follow your own ways, but to look to Jesus as your guide and pattern. Keep His example before you, and constantly ask what will be pleasing in His sight. Learn from Him lessons of self-denial and self-sacrifice.

Watch every moment, keeping your mind stayed upon God, instead of having it upon dress, and suffering pride to dwell in your heart. Seek to deny yourself; be holy; let your mind dwell upon heaven, and let your conversation be there also.... Those who follow Christ will choose the suffering, self-denying part, and will have His approbation here, and ... glory, immortality and eternal life hereafter.
