“애통하는 자는 복이 있나니”

 

The mourning here brought to view is true heart sorrow for sin.

Jesus says, “I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me.” John 12:32. 

여기서 애통이라고 하는 말은 진정한 마음으로 죄를 슬퍼하는 것을 의미한다.

예수께서는 “내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라”(요한복음 12장 32절)고 말씀하신다. 

And as one is drawn to behold Jesus uplifted on the cross,

he discerns the sinfulness of humanity.

He sees that it is sin which scourged and crucified the Lord of glory.

He sees that, while he has been loved with unspeakable tenderness,

his life has been a continual scene of ingratitude and rebellion.

He has forsaken his best Friend and abused heaven’s most precious gift.

He has crucified to himself the Son of God afresh

and pierced anew that bleeding and stricken heart.

He is separated from God by a gulf of sin that is broad and black and deep,

and he mourns in brokenness of heart. 

그래서 사람이 십자가에 들리신 예수님을 바라볼 때는 인간의 죄가 무엇인지 분별하게 된다.

그는 영광의 주님을 징벌하고 십자가에 못 박게 한 것이 죄라는 것을 깨닫는다.

말로 다할 수 없는 따뜻한 사랑을 받았음에도 불구하고

계속해서 배은망덕과 반역으로 일관된 생애를 살아 왔음을 알게 된다.

그는 가장 좋은 친구를 버리고 가장 귀중한 하늘의 선물을 모독해 온 것이다.

계속해서, 그것도 직접, 하나님의 아들을 십자가에 못 박으며,

상처를 받아 피가 흐르는 그분의 심장을 찔러 온 것이다.

그는 넓고 어둡고 깊은 죄의 심연(深淵)에 의해 하나님과 분리되어 있어 가슴이 찢어지는 슬픔을 느낀다.

Such mourning “shall be comforted.”

God reveals to us our guilt that we may flee to Christ,

and through Him be set free from the bondage of sin,

and rejoice in the liberty of the sons of God.

In true contrition we may come to the foot of the cross, and there leave our burdens. 

이런 애통이 “위로를 받을 것”이다.

하나님께서 우리에게 우리 죄를 드러내시는 것은 우리로 하여금 그리스도께로 피하여

그분을 통해 죄의 속박에서 벗어나 하나님의 자녀들이 누리는 자유를 향유할 수 있도록 하시기 위함이다.

우리는 진정한 회개를 통해 십자가 아래로 나아가며 그 곳에다 짐을 내려놓을 수 있다.

The Saviour’s words have a message of comfort to those also

who are suffering affliction or bereavement.

Our sorrows do not spring out of the ground.

God “doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.” Lamentations 3:33.

When He permits trials and afflictions,

it is “for our profit, that we might be partakers of His holiness.” Hebrews 12:10.

If received in faith, the trial that seems so bitter and hard to bear will prove a blessing.

The cruel blow that blights the joys of earth

will be the means of turning our eyes to heaven.

How many there are

who would never have known Jesus had not sorrow led them to seek comfort in Him!

구주의 말씀에는 재난이나 사별의 아픔을 가지고 있는 사람들을 위한 위로의 기별도 있다.

우리의 슬픔은 아무런 이유없이 생기는 것이 아니다.

하나님이 “인생으로 고생하며 근심하게 하심이 본심이 아니시”다(애3:33).

그분께서 시련과 환난을 허락하시는 것은

“우리의 유익을 위하여 그의 거룩하심에 참예케 하시”(히12:10)기 위함이다.

감당하기 심히 어렵고 가혹하게 보이는 시련이라도 일단 믿음으로 받아들이면 축복임이 판명될 것이다.

세상의 쾌락을 앗아가는 혹독한 재난이 오히려 우리의 눈을 하늘로 향하게 하는 수단이 될 것이다. 

슬픔을 당하여 예수님 안에서 위로를 구하는 일이 없었더라면 결코 그분을 알지 못했을 사람들이 많이 있다.
