Laborers for God

 

Fellow laborers in the great harvest field, we have but little time left in which to labor.

Now is the most favorable opportunity we shall ever have,

and how carefully ought every moment to be employed.

So devoted was our Redeemer to the work of saving souls that

He even longed for His baptism of blood.

 

큰 추수장에서 일하는 동료 일꾼들이여, 우리에게는 일할 시간이 조금밖에 남아 있지 않다.

지금은 우리에게 주어질 수 있는 가장 유리한 기회이다.

그러므로 매 순간을 참으로 주의 깊이 이용해야 한다.

우리 구주께서는 영혼들을 구원하는 사업에 너무도 헌신했기 때문에

그분은 당신의 피의 침례까지도 갈망하셨다.

 

The apostles caught the zeal of their Master

and firmly, steadily, zealously went forward to the accomplishment of their great work,

fighting against principalities and powers, and spiritual wickedness in high places.

 

사도들은 주님의 열성에 사로잡혀,

위대한 그들의 사업을 완수하기 위하여 확고하고, 착실하고, 열렬하게 앞으로 전진하고,

정사와 권세와 하늘에 있는 악의 영들을 대항하여 싸웠다.

 

We are living in a time

when even greater earnestness is needed than in the apostles’ day.

But among many of the ministers of Christ there is a feeling of unrest,

a desire to imitate the romantic style of modern revivalists,

a desire to do something great, to create a sensation, to be accounted able speakers,

and to gain for themselves honor and distinction.

If such could encounter perils and receive the honor given to heroes,

they would engage in the work with unflagging energy.

 

우리는 사도 시대보다 더 큰 열성이 필요한 시대에 살고 있다.

그러나 그리스도께 속한 목사들 중 많은 사람들에게는

불안한 정신과, 현대 부흥사들의 허황된 스타일을 본받고자 하는 욕망과,

무엇인가 큰일을 하고, 선풍을 일으키고, 유능한 설교자로 인정을 받고,

그들 스스로 영광과 명예를 얻고자 하는 욕망이 있다.

만일 그런 사람들이 위기를 당할지라도 영웅들에게 주어진 명예를 받을 수만 있다면

그들은 지칠줄 모르는 정력으로 사업에 종사할 것이다.

 

But to live and labor almost unknown,

to toil and sacrifice for Jesus in obscurity, receiving no special praise from men—

this requires a soundness of principle and a steadfastness of purpose

that but few possess.

Were there a greater effort to walk humbly with God,

looking away from men and laboring only for Christ’s sake,

far more would be accomplished.

 

그러나 거의 알려지지 않은 상태에서 생애하고 활동한다는 것,

무명의 상태에서 예수님을 위하여 수고하고 희생하고, 사람들에게 특별한 칭찬을 받지 않는다는 것 — 이것은 불과 소수의 사람들만이 소유하고 있는 건전한 원칙과 확고한 목적을 요구한다.

하나님과 겸손하게 동행하기 위하여 더 많이 노력하고,

사람을 보지 않고 오직 그리스도를 위해서만 활동할 것 같으면,

훨씬 더 많은 것이 성취될 것이다.
