Fortitude

견디는 힘

Those who are finally victorious will have seasons of terrible perplexity and trial

in their religious life; but they must not cast away their confidence,

for this is a part of their discipline in the school of Christ,

and it is essential in order that all dross may be purged away.

 

최후의 승리를 얻을 사람들은 그들의 신앙 생활에 있어서 무서운 당혹과 시련의 시기를 겪을 것이다. 그러나 그들은 담대함을 잃어서는 안 된다. 이는 그것이 그리스도의 학교에서 받는 단련의 일부이며 모든 불순물들을 제거하는데 불가결하기 때문이다.

 

The servant of God must endure with fortitude the attacks of the enemy,

his grievous taunts, and must overcome the obstacles which Satan will place in his way.

하나님의 종들은 원수의 공격과 그의 극악한 능욕을 끈기 있게 견디고

사단이 길 앞에 놓아둔 장애물들을 정복해야 한다.

 

Satan will seek to discourage the followers of Christ,

so that they may not pray or study the Scriptures,

and he will throw his hateful shadow athwart the path to hide Jesus from the view,

to shut away the vision of His love, and the glories of the heavenly inheritance.

 

사단은 그리스도를 따르는 자들을 낙담시켜 그들이 기도하거나 성경을 연구하지 못하게 할 것이다.

그리고 사단은 그의 가증한 그림자로 길을 가로막아 예수를 보지 못하게 하고,

주의 사랑과 천국의 유업의 영광을 보지 못하게 한다.

 

It is his delight to cause the children of God to go shrinkingly, tremblingly,

and painfully along, under continual doubt.

He seeks to make the pathway as sorrowful as possible;

but if you keep looking up, not down at your difficulties, you will not faint in the way,

you will soon see Jesus reaching His hand to help you,

and you will only have to give Him your hand in simple confidence, and let Him lead you. As you become trustful, you will become hopeful.

 

하나님의 자녀들이 끊임없이 의혹을 품은 가운데 위축되고, 전율하고,

그리고 괴롭게 걸어가게 만드는 것이 그의 즐거움이다.

그는 사람의 길을 할 수 있는 대로 슬프게 만들려고 힘쓴다.

그러나 만일 그대들의 눈이 항상 위로 향하고, 그대들의 문제들을 내려다보지 않는다면

그대들은 도중에서 지치지 않을 것이며

그대들은 곧 예수께서 그대들을 도우시려고 손을 뻗치시는 것을 볼 것이다.

그대들은 다만 단순한 믿음으로 손을 그에게 드리고 주께서 그대들을 인도하시게만 하면 된다.

그대들이 신뢰함에 따라 그대들은 소망을 가지게 될 것이다.
