성실함과 마음의 평정은 깨어 기도함으로만 유지될 수 있다

 

The life of Christ was designed to show

that purity, stability, and firmness of principle are not dependent upon a life

freed from hardships, poverty, and adversity.

 

그리스도의 생애는

'순결과 견인 불발과 확고한 원칙은 고생과 가난과 역경이 없는 생활에 달려 있는 것이 아니라'는 사실을 증거하기 위하여 설계된 것이었다.

 

The trials and privations of which so many youth complain,

Christ endured without murmuring.

심히 많은 청년들이 불평하는 시련과 곤궁을, 그리스도께서는 묵묵히 견디셨다.

 

And this discipline is the very experience the youth need,

which will give firmness to their characters,

and make them like Christ, strong in spirit to resist temptation.

 

그리고 이 훈련은 바로 청년에게 꼭 필요한 경험이 될 것인바,

이것은 그들의 성격을 견고하게 하고, 그들을 그리스도의 형상을 닮게 하고,

정신이 강건하여 유혹에 저항하게 할 것이다.

 

They will not, if they separate from the influence of those

who would lead them astray and corrupt their morals,

be overcome by the devices of Satan.

 

그들을 곁길로 가게 하여 그들의 도덕을 부패케 하려는 자들의 영향을 떠난다면

그들은 사단의 계교에 정복당하지 않을 것이다.

Through daily prayer to God, they will have wisdom and grace from Him

to bear the conflict and stern realities of life, and come off victorious.

 

날마다 하나님께 기도드림으로 그들은 하나님으로부터 지혜와 은혜를 얻어

싸움과 엄숙한 인생의 현실을 견디고 마침내 개선(凱旋)할 것이다.

 

Fidelity and serenity of mind can only be retained by watchfulness and prayer.

 

성실함과 마음의 평정은 깨어 기도함으로써만 유지될 수 있다.

 

Christ’s life was an example of persevering energy,

which was not allowed to become weakened by

reproach, ridicule, privation or hardships. 

 

그리스도의 생애는 인내력 곧 비난과 조롱과 궁핍과 곤난으로 말미암아 약해지지 않은

인내력의 모범이었다.
