영원한 기쁨과 세상이 주는 모든 복락

 

그리스도께서는 각 사람이 다음의 사실을 생각해 보기를 요구하신다.

정직하게 계산해 보라.

 

저울 한쪽에는 영원한 보배가 되시고, 생명과, 진리와, 천국을 의미하는 예수님과

그리스도의 기쁨이 되시는 구속 받은 영혼들을 놓고

다른 편에는 사람의 마음을 끄는 이 세상이 줄 수 있는 모든 복락을 놓아라.

 

또 한편 저울에는 잃어버린바 된 그대 자신의 영혼과

그대의 조력으로 구원함을 받을 수 있었던 자들의 영혼들을 놓고,

다른 편 저울에는 하나님의 생명으로 측정될 수 있는 그대와 그들을 위한 영원한 생명을

올려놓았다고 생각해 보라.

 

그리고 일시적인 것과 영원한 것을 대비하여 달아 보아라.

 

그대가 그렇게 하는 동안 그리스도께서는

“사람이 만일 온 천하를 얻고도 제 목숨을 잃으면 무엇이 유익하리요”(막 8:36)라고

말씀하신다…

 

+ 이세상의 어떤 친구와의 교제보다도 그리스도로 말미암아 구속받은 자들과의 친교가 더 낫다.

+ 이 땅의 가장 훌륭한 왕궁에서 한자리를 차지하는 것보다도

  우리 주께서 예비하러 가신 하늘 집에서 한자리를 차지하는 것이 더 낫다. 그리고

+ 세상이 하는 어떤 칭찬의 말보다도 그리스도께서 당신의 신실한 종들에게

  “내 아버지께 복 받을 자들이여, 나아와 창세로부터 너희를 위하여 예비된 나라를 상속하라”

   (마 25:34)고 하시는 말씀이 더욱 낫다.

Everlasting Joy and Every Attraction the World

 

Christ calls upon every one to consider. Make an honest reckoning. Put into one scale Jesus, which means eternal treasure, life, truth, heaven, and the joy of Christ in souls redeemed; put into the other every attraction the world can offer.

Into one scale put the loss of your own soul, and the souls of those whom you might have been instrumental in saving; into the other, for yourself and for them, a life that measures with the life of God. Weigh for time and for eternity. While you are thus engaged, Christ speaks: “What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Mark 8:36…

Better than all the friendship of the world is the friendship of Christ’s redeemed. Better than a title to the noblest palace on earth is a title to the mansions our Lord has gone to prepare. And better than all the words of earthly praise will be the Saviour’s words to His faithful servants, “Come, ye blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Matthew 25:34.
