용 서

용 서

 

 

용서하지 않는 자는

하나님께로부터 자비를 받을 수 있는 유일한 통로를 끊어 버리게 된다.

우리는 우리에게 해를 끼친 자들이 잘못을 고백하지 않는 한

그들을 용서해 주지 않아도 괜찮다고 생각해선 안 된다.

물론, 회개와 고백으로 마음을 겸손하게 하는 것이 그들의 도리이긴 하나,

우리는 우리에게 잘못을 범한 자들이 그 실수를 고백하든지 하지 않든지 간에

그들에 대하여 긍휼의 정신을 가져야 한다.

 

그들이 우리에게 아무리 심한 상처를 줄지라도, 불만을 품거나 상처를 받은 자신을 동정하지 말며,

우리가 하나님께 범죄한 것을 용서받으려 하는 것처럼

우리에게 잘못한 모든 사람을 용서해 주어야 한다.

 

Forgiveness

He who is unforgiving cuts off the very channel

through which alone he can receive mercy from God.

We should not think that unless those who have injured us confess the wrong

we are justified in withholding from them our forgiveness.

It is their part, no doubt, to humble their hearts by repentance and confession;

but we are to have a spirit of compassion

toward those who have trespassed against us, whether or not they confess their faults.

 

However sorely they may have wounded us,

we are not to cherish our grievances and sympathize with ourselves over our injuries;

but as we hope to be pardoned for our offenses against God

we are to pardon all who have done evil to us.
