참된 거듭남의 증거

예수님은 협잡꾼이 아니며 성경은 공교히 만든 이야기가 아니라고 믿는 것만으로는 충분하지 않다.

비록 우리가 천하에 오직 예수의 이름만이 사람들에게 구원을 줄 수 있는 유일한 이름으로

믿는다 할지라도 우리는 그분을 개인의 구주로 받아들이지 않을 수 있다.

 

진리의 이론만을 믿는 것으로는 충분하지 않다.

그리스도를 믿는다고 공언(公言)하는 것만으로 충분하지 않고

우리 이름이 교회 녹명책에 기록된 것만으로도 충분하지 않다.

 

“그의 계명들을 지키는 자는 주 안에 거하고 주는 저 안에 거하시나니

우리에게 주신 성령으로 말미암아 그가 우리 안에 거하시는 줄을 우리가 아느니라”(요일 3:24),

 

“우리가 그의 계명을 지키면 이로써 우리가 저를 아는 줄로 알 것이요”(요일 2:3).

 

이것이 참된 거듭남의 증거이다.

우리가 어떠한 공언을 하든 간에 우리의 옳은 행실로 그리스도를 드러내지 않을 것 같으면

그 공언은 아무 소용이 없다.

진리가 마음속에 심어져야 한다.

진리가 마음을 지배하고 애정을 통제해야 한다.

우리의 온 품성이 하나님의 말씀으로 인 쳐져야 한다.

하나님의 말씀의 일점일획까지도 매일 실천해야 한다.

 

 

Genuine Evidence of Conversion

It is not enough for us to believe that Jesus is not an impostor,

and that the religion of the Bible is no cunningly devised fable.

We may believe that the name of Jesus is the only name under heaven

whereby man may be saved,

and yet we may not through faith make Him our personal Savior.

 

It is not enough to believe the theory of truth.

It is not enough to make a profession of faith in Christ

and have our names registered on the church roll.

 

“He that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him.

And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.”

 

“Hereby we do know that we know Him if we keep His commandments.”

1 John 3:24; 1 John 2:3.

 

This is the genuine evidence of conversion.

Whatever our profession,

it amounts to nothing unless Christ is revealed in works of righteousness.

The truth is to be planted in the heart.

It is to control the mind and regulate the affections.

The whole character must be stamped with the divine utterances.

Every jot and tittle of the word of God is to be brought into the daily practice.
