사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 하나님의 말씀으로 살 것이라

 

사람이 근심에 둘러싸여 있을 때와

어려운 사정에 어찌할 바를 모를 때와

빈곤과 애통함으로 괴로움을 당할 때마다 사단은 시험하여 괴롭게 하려고 대기하고 있다.

그는 우리의 품성의 약점을 공격한다.

그는 이러한 일들이 존재하도록 용납하시는 하나님께 대한 우리의 확신을 흔들어 놓으려고 애쓴다.

우리는 하나님을 불신하며 그분의 사랑을 의심하도록 시험을 받는다.

 

흔히 유혹자는 그리스도에게 접근하였던 것처럼 우리에게 접근하여

우리의 결점과 연약한 점을 열거한다.

그는 영혼을 낙담시켜 하나님을 붙든 손을 놓게 만들기를 바란다.

그렇게만 되면 그는 확실히 사단의 밥이 된다.

 

그러나 우리가 예수께서 하신 것처럼 사단을 대적한다면 우리는 많은 패배를 면할 것이다.

원수와 담판을 함으로 우리는 그에게 기회를 주게 된다.

그리스도께서 유혹자에게

“사람이 떡으로만 살 것이 아니요 하나님의 입으로 나오는 모든 말씀으로 살 것이라”고

말씀하셨는데 이는 1400 년 전에 그분이 이스라엘 백성에게

“네 하나님 여호와께서 이 40 년 동안에 너로 광야의 길을 걷게 하신 것을 기억하라…

너를 낮추시며, 너로 주리게 하시며,

또 너도 알지 못하며 네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 네게 먹이신 것은

사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 여호와의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 사는 줄을

너로 알게 하려 하심이니라”(신 8：2, 3)고 하신 말씀을 반복하신 것이다.

 

광야에서 생활을 유지할 모든 수단이 떨어졌을 때에

하나님께서는 당신의 백성을 위해 하늘에서 만나를 충분히 그리고 끊임없이 공급하여 주셨다.

이러한 공급은 그들이 하나님을 신뢰하고 하나님의 법도대로 사는 동안은

하나님께서 그들을 버리지 않으리라는 것을 그들에게 가르치시기 위함이었다.

 

Man Shall Not Live By Bread Alone, But by the Word of God

 

Whenever one is encompassed with clouds,

perplexed by circumstances,

or afflicted by poverty or distress, Satan is at hand to tempt and annoy.

He attacks our weak points of character.

He seeks to shake our confidence in God,

who suffers such a condition of things to exist.

We are tempted to distrust God, to question His love.

 

Often the tempter comes to us as he came to Christ,

arraying before us our weakness and infirmities.

He hopes to discourage the soul, and to break our hold on God.

Then he is sure of his prey.

 

If we would meet him as Jesus did, we should escape many a defeat.

By parleying with the enemy, we give him an advantage.

When Christ said to the tempter,

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth

out of the mouth of God,”

He repeated the words that, more than fourteen hundred years before,

He had spoken to Israel:

“The Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness....

And He humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna,

which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know;

that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only,

but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.”

Deuteronomy 8:2, 3. (신명기)

 

In the wilderness, when all means of sustenance failed,

God sent His people manna from heaven;

and a sufficient and constant supply was given.

This provision was to teach them

that while they trusted in God and walked in His ways

He would not forsake them.
