영혼의 통로를 지킴

 

 

우리가 유혹을 물리치기 위해서 해야 할 일이 있다.

사단의 계책에 빠지지 않으려면 영혼의 통로를 잘 지켜야 한다.

불순한 생각을 일으키는 것들을 읽거나, 보거나, 듣는 일을 피해야 한다.

영혼의 대적이 암시하는 모든 문제에 닥치는 대로 빠져들지 않도록 마음을 방심하지 말아야 한다.

 

사도 베드로는 “너희 마음의 허리를 동이고 근신하여…

이전 알지 못할 때에 좇던 너희 사욕을 본 삼지 말고

오직 너희를 부르신 거룩한 자처럼 너희도 모든 행실에 거룩한 자가 되라”(벧던 1: 13~15)고 말했다.

 

바울도 “무엇에든지 참되며, 무엇에든지 경건하며, 무엇에든지 옳으며, 무엇에든지 정결하며,

무엇에든지 사랑할 만하며, 무엇에든지 칭찬할 만하며,

무슨 덕이 있든지 무슨 기림이 있든지 이것들을 생각하라”(빌 4: 8)고 말했다.

 

이렇게 하려면 열렬한 기도와 끊임없는 경계가 필요할 것이다.

우리는 마음을 향상시키고 마음속에 순결하고 거룩한 사물을 항상 생각나게 하는

거룩한 성령의 지속적인 감화를 받아야 한다.

또한 우리는 하나님의 말씀을 부지런히 연구해야 한다.

 

시편 기자는 “청년이 무엇으로 그 행실을 깨끗게 하리이까, 주의 말씀을 따라 삼갈 것이니이다”,

“내가 주께 범죄치 아니하려 하여 주의 말씀을 내 마음에 두었나이다”(시 119: 9, 11)라고 말했다.

 

Guard the Avenues of the Soul

We have a work to do to resist temptation. Those who would not fall a prey to Satan's devices must guard well the avenues of the soul; they must avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that which will suggest impure thoughts.

The mind should not be left to wander at random upon every subject that the adversary of souls may suggest. "Girding up the loins of your mind," says the apostle Peter, "be sober, ... not fashioning yourselves according to your former lusts in ... your ignorance: but like as He which called you is holy, be ye yourselves also holy in all manner of living" (1 Peter 1:13-15, RV).

Says Paul, "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8).

This will require earnest prayer and unceasing watchfulness. We must be aided by the abiding influence of the Holy Spirit, which will attract the mind upward, and habituate it to dwell on pure and holy things. And we must give diligent study to the Word of God. "Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy Word." "Thy Word," says the psalmist, "have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee" (Psalm 119:9, 11).-Patriarchs and Prophets, 460 (1890).
