레위기 19:9~19:15 / 찬 393 (통 447)

 

 

ON HELPING OTHERS

When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. -Lev. 19:9

When snowstorms bury the grazing lands, ranchers must feed their herds by hand. As hay is tossed from wagons and trucks, the strongest animals bull their way to the front. Timid or sickly animals get little or no feed unless the rancher intervenes. Workers in refugee camps and food pantries report a similar pattern. When they open their stores to those in need, the weak and timid may not make it to the front of the line. Like the ranchers, these human lifelines must take steps to ensure that their services reach the feeble, weary, and sick at the edge of society’s attention. They are carrying out a principle set forth by God long ago. In Leviticus 19, Moses instructed Israel’s farmers and vintners to leave portions of their crops so the poor and the stranger could have something to eat (vv.9-10). We too can serve as caretakers to the weak and weary. Whether we’re teachers coaxing quiet students to open up, workers coming alongside a struggling co-worker, prisoners looking out for new arrivals, or parents showing attention to their children, we have ways to honor God by helping others. As we seek to serve those in need, may the grace of God that reached us in our need move us to reach out to others in theirs.   -Randy Kilgore

Father, open my eyes to those struggling to have enough food, enough love, enough hope; then open my heart to find ways to help them receive love, using my hands in service to them and through them, to You.

By serving others, we serve God.

폭설로 목초지가 묻히게 되면 목장주인들은 손수 가축들을 먹여야 합니다. 마차나 트럭에서 건초더미를 던져주면 가장 힘센 동물들이 먼저 앞으로 달려옵니다. 겁 많고 병약한 동물들은 목장주인이 개입하지 않으면 거의 못 먹거나 전혀 먹지 못합니다. 피난민 수용소와 구호시설에서 일하는 사람들도 비슷한 양상을 보고합니다. 그들이 가난한 이들에게 구호시설을 개방하면 약하고 겁 많은 사람들은 줄의 앞쪽으로 잘 나오지를 못합니다. 그래서 구호시설에서 일하는 사람들은 마치 목장주인들처럼 지역사회의 관심을 받지 못하는 약자와 삶에 지친 사람들, 그리고 병자들에게까지 구호의 손길이 미칠 수 있도록 확실하게 조치를 취해야 합니다. 그들은 오래 전에 하나님께서 만들어 놓으신 원리를 실행하는 것입니다. 레위기 19장에서 모세는 이스라엘의 농부들과 포도원지기들에게 그들 작물의 일부를 남겨두어 가난한 사람들과 타국인들이 먹을 수 있게 하라고 지시했습니다(9-10절). 우리 또한 약자와 삶에 지친 사람들을 돌보는 일로 봉사할 수 있습니다. 수줍은 학생들에게 말동무가 되어주는 선생으로서, 힘들어하는 동료에게 다가가는 직장인으로서, 새로 수감되는 죄수들을 지켜주는 재소자로서, 아니면 자식들에게 관심을 쏟는 부모로서, 우리는 여러 가지 방식으로 남을 도와줌으로써 하나님께 영광을 돌릴 수 있습니다. 도움이 필요한 사람들을 도우려할 때, 우리가 어려울 때 찾아오신 하나님의 은혜에 우리 마음이 감동되어 어려움에 처한 다른 사람들을 찾아갈 수 있게 해주소서.

하나님 아버지, 제 눈을 열어 먹을 것과 사랑과 희망을 찾아 몸부림치는 사람들을 보게 하소서. 그리고 제 마음을 열어 그들이 사랑을 받을 수 있도록 돕는 길을 찾게 하시고, 제 손으로 그들을 도움으로써 그들을 통해 주님을 섬기게 하소서.

다른 사람들을 섬김으로써 우리는 하나님을 섬긴다.
