JESUS’ LOVE FOR ALL

He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, . . . where they crucified Him. -John 19:17-18

It was a bit unusual, but three times in one day I heard the same song. In the early afternoon, I attended a hymnsing at a home for the elderly. As part of her prayer at the end of our time together, Willie, one of the residents, said, “Sing with me, ‘Jesus Loves Me.’” In the evening, I attended a gathering with young people who sang it while pounding out the beat with their hands and feet. Later that evening, I received a text message on my phone with an audio recording of my 2 1/2-year-old grandniece with a sweet little voice, singing, “I am weak, but He is strong.” People in their nineties, teenagers, and a toddler all sang that song that day. After hearing that simple song three times, I began to think the Lord might be telling me something. Actually, He gave us all this message long ago: “I love you.” We read in John 19 that He allowed people to put a crown of thorns on His head, mock Him, strike Him, strip Him, and crucify Him (vv.1-6). He had the power to stop them, but He said very little (v.11). He did it all for love’s sake to pay for our sins and to rescue us from punishment. How much does God love us? Jesus spread out His arms and was nailed to the cross. He died for us, then rose again. That’s a precious fact for young and old. -Anne Cetas

모두를 향한 예수님의 사랑

예수께서 자기의 십자가를 지시고 해골이라 하는 곳에 나가시니 그들이 거기서 예수를 십자가에 못 박을새-요한복음 19:17-18

그날은 이상하게도 같은 노래를 세 번이나 들었습니다. 이른 오후 노인들을 위한 가정찬양예배에 참석했었는데, 모임이 끝나고 마침기도를 할 때 참석자 가운데 한 사람인 윌리가 “저와 함께 ‘예수 사랑하심은’을 불러요.”라고 말했습니다. 저녁에 참석한 젊은이들의 모임에서는 그들이 같은 찬송을 손과 발로 박자를 맞추면서 불렀습니다. 또 저녁 늦게는 나의 두 살 반 된 조카손녀가 귀여운 목소리로 “우리들은 약하나 예수 권세 많도다”라고 부르는 음성파일이 첨부된 문자메시지를 전화로 받았습니다. 그날 구십대도 십대도 어린아이도 모두 그 노래를 불렀습니다. 그 단순한 노래를 세 번이나 들은 후 나는 하나님이 내게 무엇인가 말씀하고 계신지도 모른다는 생각이 들었습니다. 실제로 하나님은 우리 모두에게 “내가 너를 사랑한다.”는 메시지를 오래전에 주셨습니다. 요한복음 19장에서 우리는 주님이 사람들에게 가시관을 그의 머리에 씌우고 그를 조롱하고 때리고 옷을 벗겨 십자가에 못 박는 것을 허락하셨음을 봅니다(1-6절). 주님은 그것들을 못하게 할 수 있는 권세가 있었지만 거의 아무 말씀도 하시지 않았습니다(11절). 주님은 우리의 죄 값을 치르고 우리를 형벌에서 구하기 위한 사랑 때문에 그 모든 것들을 허락하셨습니다. 하나님이 우리를 얼마나 사랑하시는지요? 예수님은 두 팔이 펼친 채 십자가에 못 박히셨습니다. 그리고 우리를 위해 죽으시고 다시 부활하셨습니다. 이것은 나이를 불문하고 모두에게 아주 소중한 사실입니다.

예수 사랑하심은 거룩하신 말일세 우리들은 약하나 예수 권세 많도다

하나님의 사랑의 가장 정확한 척도는 측량할 수 없을 만큼 사랑하신다는 것이다.
