THE PRESENTATION

He has reconciled . . . to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight. -Colossians 1:21-22

My wife, Martie, is a great cook. After a long day I often look forward to the smell of spicy aromas that promise a tasty feast. Not only does she know how to prepare a meal, but she is also a master at the presentation. The colors of the food on the plate, beautifully arranged in a harmony of meat, white puffy rice, and vegetables welcome me to pull up my chair and enjoy her handiwork. But the food was not so attractive before she got her hands on it. The meat was raw and squishy, the rice was hard and brittle, and the vegetables needed to be scrubbed and trimmed. It reminds me of the gracious work Jesus has done for me. I am well aware of my frailty and propensity to sin. I know that in and of myself I am not presentable to God. Yet when I’m saved, Jesus makes me a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). He takes me just as I am and makes me just as I should be-“holy, and blameless, and above reproach” (Col. 1:22). He presents me to our Father as a thing of beauty worthy to be in His presence. May His transforming work on our behalf stimulate us to live up to the presentation and to be humbly grateful to Christ for His finishing work in our lives! -Joe Stowell

화목하게 하사 너희를 거룩하고 흠 없고 책망할 것이 없는 자로 그 앞에 세우고자 하셨으니-골로새서 1:22

내 아내 마티는 훌륭한 요리사입니다. 힘든 하루 일이 끝나면 나는 자주 맛있는 만찬을 짐작케 해주는 향긋한 냄새를 기대하곤 합니다. 마티는 음식을 맛있게 요리할 수 있을 뿐 아니라 요리를 예쁘게 꾸미는 데도 일가견이 있습니다. 접시 위에 고기와 잘 익힌 쌀, 그리고 채소들이 잘 어우러져 아름답게 배열된 음식 색깔들이 내가 의자를 바짝 끌어당겨 그녀의 작품을 즐기도록 이끌어줍니다. 그러나 그 음식은 그녀가 요리하기 전까지는 그렇게 멋진 것이 아니었습니다. 고기는 날 것이었고 쌀은 딱딱했으며 채소는 행구고 다듬어야 했습니다. 이것은 주님이 나에게 행하신 은혜의 역사를 상기시켜줍니다. 나는 연약하며 또 죄성이 있음을 잘 알고 있습니다. 내 힘으로는 본질적으로 하나님 앞에 설 수 없음도 압니다. 그렇다하더라도 내가 구원 받을 때 예수님은 나를 새로운 피조물로 만들어주십니다(고후 5:17). 주님은 나를 있는 그대로 받아주시고, 내가 꼭 되어야 할 “거룩하고 흠 없고 책망할 것이 없는”(골 1:22) 자로 만들어주십니다. 예수님은 내가 하나님 앞에 설 수 있는 아름다운 존재로 우리 하나님 아버지께 나를 표현해 보여주십니다. 우리를 변화시켜주시는 예수님의 사역이 우리를 격려하여 표상이 되는 삶을 살게 하시고 우리의 삶의 마무리작업에 대해 겸손히 감사하게 하옵소서!

예수님의 모든 놀라운 열정과 순수함 같은 주님의 그 아름다움이 내 안에 보이게 해주소서 주님의 아름다움이 내 안에 보일 때까지 거룩하신 성령님, 나의 모든 본성을 정제시켜 주소서

예수님은 우리를 있는 그대로 받아주시고 마땅히 되어야 할 모습으로 만들어주신다.
