무시를 괘념치 말라

우리의 평화를 깨뜨리는 것은 자신에 대한 사랑이다. 자아가 살아 있는 동안에 우리는 언제나 그것이 굴욕과 모욕을 당하지 않도록 방어 태세를 취한다. 그러나 우리가 죽고 우리의 생애가 그리스도와 함께 하나님 안에 감춰질 때는, 무시나 경멸을 조금도 괘념치 않게 될 것이다. 비난에 대하여 귀머거리가 되고, 조소와 모욕에 대해서는 소경이 될 것이다.-산상보훈, 16 (1896)

무시를 견딜 능력

 

하나님을 사랑하는 영혼은 의심의 안개 위로 솟아오른다. 그는 밝고 넓으며 깊고, 살아있는 경험을 얻어, 온유하신 그리스도처럼 된다. 그의 영혼은 하나님께 의탁되어, 하나님 안에서 그리스도와 함께 숨겨진다. 그는 무시와 학대와 경멸의 시험을 견딜 수 있게 될 것인데, 그 이유는 구주께서 이 모든 것을 당하셨기 때문이다. 그러한 난관들이 그를 억누를 때에 불평하거나 낙담하지 않을 것이다. 왜냐하면 예수께서는 실패하지 않으셨고 낙담하지 않으셨기 때문이다. 모든 참된 그리스도인은 자신의 선한 행위의 능력과 공로가 아니라 믿음을 통해서 그에게 전가되는 그리스도의 의 안에서 강해질 것이다. 하늘의 왕께서 사람들 가운데 행하셨을 때 그러하셨던 것처럼 마음이 온유하고 겸손하게 되고, 순결하고 더러움이 없게 되는 것은 위대한 일이다.-RH, 1889.12.3.(7BC, 907).

Not to Take Neglects to Heart

It is the love of self that destroys our peace. While self is all alive, we stand ready continually to guard it from mortification and insult; but when we are dead and our life is hid with Christ in God, we shall not take neglects or slights to heart. We shall be deaf to reproach and blind to scorn and insult.-- MB 16 (1896).

Ability to Endure Neglect.--The soul that loves God rises above the fog of doubt; he gains a bright, broad, deep, living experience and becomes meek and Christlike. His soul is committed to God, hid with Christ in God. He will be able to stand the test of neglect, of abuse and contempt, because his Saviour has suffered all this. He will not become fretful and discouraged when difficulties press him, because Jesus did not fail or become discouraged. Every true Christian will be strong, not in the strength and merit of his good works, but in the righteousness of Christ, which through faith is imputed unto him. It is a great thing to be meek and lowly in heart, to be pure and undefiled, as was the Prince of heaven when He walked among men.--RH, Dec 3, 1889. (7BC 907.)
