네가 어찌하여 여기 있느냐?

 

네가 어찌하여 여기 있느냐?

 

진실하고 충성된 자들의 끊임없는 활동에 많은 것이 좌우됨으로

사단은 하나님을 순종하는 자들을 통하여 성취될 하나님의 목적을 좌절시키기 위하여

할 수 있는 모든 노력을 다 기울인다.

 

사단은 어떤 사람들로 하여금 그들의 높고 거룩한 사명을 보지 못하게 하고 이생의 쾌락에 만족하도록 한다. 그는 그들로 안일에 빠지게 하고 보다 큰 세상의 이익을 위하여,

선을 위한 능력이 될 수 있는 자리에서 옮기도록 유도한다.

그는 또 다른 사람들을 반대와 핍박으로 실망하게 하여 의무의 길에서 물러서게 한다.

 

그러나 하늘은 이와 같은 모든 사람들을 가장 부드러운 동정심을 가지고 바라보신다.

하나님께서는 영혼의 원수로 인해 그들의 음성이 침묵 된 하나님의 모든 자녀들에게

“네가 어찌하여 여기 있느냐?”는 질문을 하신다.

나는 그대들이 온 세상에 나아가 복음을 전파하여 하나님의 날을 위한 한 백성을 준비시키도록

그대들을 임명하셨다. 그런데 왜 그대는 여기 있는가? 누가 그대를 보냈는가?

 

그리스도 앞에 놓인 기쁨, 곧 그로 하여금 희생과 고통을 참게 한 기쁨은

구원받은 죄인들을 보는 기쁨이었다.

이것은 그리스도를 따르는 모든 사람의 기쁨이 되고 그들의 의욕을 돋우는 격려가 되어야 한다.

비록 정도의 차이는 있지만 구속이 그들과 그들의 동료들에게 어떠한 의미를 부여하는가를 깨닫는 자들은 지대한 인간의 필요를 어느 정도 이해하게 될 것이다.

그들이 무서운 운명의 그늘 아래 있는 무수한 사람들의 도덕적·영적 결핍

－그것에 비하면 육체적인 고통은 아무것도 아닐 것이다－을 바라볼 때에

그들의 마음은 저들에 대한 동정심으로 움직이게 될 것이다.

 

 

What Doest Thou Here?

 

 

Much depends on the unceasing activity of those who are true and loyal, and for this reason Satan puts forth every possible effort to thwart the divine purpose to be wrought out through the obedient. He causes some to lose sight of their high and holy mission, and to become satisfied with the pleasures of this life. He leads them to settle down at ease, or, for the sake of greater worldly advantages, to remove from places where they might be a power for good. Others he causes to flee in discouragement from duty, because of opposition or persecution.

But all such are regarded by Heaven with tenderest pity. To every child of God whose voice the enemy of souls had succeeded in silencing, the question is addressed, "What doest thou here?" I commissioned you to go into all the world and preach the gospel, to prepare a people for the day of God. Why are you here? Who sent you?

The joy set before Christ, the joy that sustained Him through sacrifice and suffering, was the joy of seeing sinners saved. This should be the joy of every follower of His, the spur to his ambition. Those who realize, even in a limited degree, what redemption means to them and to their fellow men, will comprehend in some measure the vast needs of humanity. Their hearts will be moved to compassion as they see the moral and spiritual destitution of thousands who are under the shadow of a terrible doom, in comparison with which physical suffering fades into nothingness. – Prophets and Kings, 171-2.
