일이 아니라 염려로 죽음

우리를 죽이는 것은 일이 아니라 염려이다. 염려를 피하는 유일한 길은 모든 어려움을 그리스도께로 가져가는 것이다. 어두운 측면을 보지 않도록 하자. 명랑한 정신을 계발하도록 하자.-Lt 208, 1903.

난관들을 깊이 생각함—어떤 사람들은 항상 두려워하므로 어려움을 자초한다. 매일 하나님의 사랑이 그들 주위에 있지만 그들은 하나님의 축복들을 깨닫지 못한다. 그들은 마음은 닥쳐올지도 모를 어떤 불쾌한 것에 대한 두려움으로 꽉 차 있다. 그들은 사소한 어떤 실제적인 문제들에 관하여 염려한다. 걱정 때문에 그들은 감사히 여길 많은 것을 보지 못하게 되나. 어려운 시기가 되면 그들은 그들의 도움이 되시는 하나님께로 돌아가야 한다. 그러나 이렇게 하기는커녕 그들은 이런 불행한 시기가 자신들을 그분과 분리시키도록 허용한다.-정로의 계단, 121, 122 (1892).

염려로 짐이 무거워짐—나는 우리가 염려함으로써 우리의 목에 멜 멍에를 만들 위험성에 빠져 있는 것을 크게 두려워한다. 염려하지 말도록 하자. 염려함으로써 우리는 멍에를 더 가혹하게 만들고, 그 짐을 더욱 무겁게 만들기 때문이다. 그리스도를 의지하면서 염려하지 말고 우리가 할 수 있는 모든 것을 하도록 하자. “너희가 기도할 때에 무엇이든지 믿고 구하는 것은 다 받으리라”(마 21: 22)는 말씀을 연구하라. 이 말씀은 전능하신 구주께서 부여하실 수 있는 모든 것을 그분을 의뢰하는 자들에게 주실 것이라는 보증이다. 하늘의 은혜를 맡은 자들로서, 우리는 믿음으로 구하고, 그 다음에는 하나님의 구원을 신뢰하는 마음으로 기다려야 한다. 우리는 자력으로 갈망하는 것을 이루려고 노력하면서 그분 앞으로 끼어 들지 말아야 한다. 우리는 그분의 이름으로 구하고, 그런 다음에는 그분의 능력을 믿는 자처럼 행동해야 한다.-Lt 123, 1904.

Worry, Not Work, Kills

It is not work that kills; it is worry. The only way to avoid worry is to take every trouble to Christ. Let us not look on the dark side. Let us cultivate cheerfulness of spirit.--Lt 208, 1903.

Dwelling Upon the Difficulties.--Some are always fearing and borrowing trouble. Every day they are surrounded with the tokens of God's love; every day they are enjoying the bounties of His providence; but they overlook these present blessings. Their minds are continually dwelling upon something disagreeable which they fear may come; or some difficulty may really exist which, though small, blinds their eyes to the many things that demand gratitude. The difficulties they encounter, instead of driving them to God, the only source of their help, separate them from him because they awaken unrest and repining.--SC 121, 122 (1892).

Worry Makes the Burden Heavy.--I greatly fear that we are in danger, by worrying, of manufacturing yokes for our necks. Let us not worry; for thus we make the yoke severe and the burden heavy. Let us do all we can without worrying, trusting in Christ. Study His words, 467 "All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive" (Matthew 21:22). These words are the pledge that all that an omnipotent Saviour can bestow will be given to those who trust in Him. As stewards of the grace of heaven, we are to ask in faith and then wait trustingly for the salvation of God. We are not to step in before Him, trying in our own strength to ring about that which we desire. In His name we are to ask, and then we are to act as if we believed in His efficiency.-- Lt 123, 1904.
