🌻 생명의 향기 • 영속적인 동기 🌻

“그리스도의 사랑이 우리를 강권하시는도다” (고후 5:14).

생애의 모든 활동에 있어서 그리스도인들은

그리스도를 나타내도록 노력해야 하는 바

곧 그의 봉사사업을 매력있게 나타내 보이도록 노력해야 한다.

아무도 슬픔이나 한숨이나 또는 그들의 시련이나 극기나 희생에 관련된 것으로써

우리의 신앙을 내 쫓지 못하게 하라.

인내하지 못함과 이마를 찌푸림과 불평을 말함으로써

그대가 부르짖는 신앙에 거짓을 나타내지 말라.

성령의 은혜들이 친절과 온유와 인내와 명랑함과 사랑 가운데 나타나게 하라.
그리스도의 사랑이 변치 않는 동기임을 알게 하라.

당신의 종교는 상황에 따라 벗었다가 입는 옷이 아니라

침착하고 꾸준하며 흔들리지 않는 원칙이다.

아! 무서운 암과 같은 교만과 불신과 이기심이

얼마나 많은 그리스도인의 마음으로부터 생생한 경건성을 좀먹고 있는가!

그들의 행위에 따라 심판할 때에

그들의 신앙은 예수 그리스도께 인정함을 받지 못하는

다만 눈부신 속임수에 지나지 않았음이 너무나도 늦게서야 알게 될 것이다.

예수께 대한 사랑은 보여지고 느껴질 것이다.

그것은 감취어질 수 없다. 그것은 놀라운 힘을 발휘한다.

그것은 소심한 자를 담대하게 하며

게으른 자를 부지런하게 하며

무식한 자를 지혜롭게 만든다.

또한 그것은 말을 더듬는 자로 웅변가가 되게 하며

잠자고 있는 재간있는 사람을 일깨워 새 생명과 활기를 얻게 한다.

그것은 낙담된 자에게 희망을 갖게 하며 침울한 자로 기쁨을 갖게 한다.

 

그리스도를 사랑하는 것은

그 사랑의 소유자로 하여금 그리스도를 위한 책임을 받아들이고

그의 능력 가운데서 그 책임을 감당하도록 인도한다.

🌻 Aroma of Life • An Abiding Motive 🌻

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 2 Corinthians 5:14.

In every act of life Christians should seek to represent Christ—seek to make His service appear attractive.

Let none make religion repulsive by groans and sighs and a relation of their trials, their self-denials, and sacrifices. Do not give the lie to your profession of faith by impatience, fretfulness, and repining.

Let the graces of the Spirit be manifested in kindness, meekness, forbearance, cheerfulness, and love.
Let it be seen that the love of Christ is an abiding motive; that your religion is not a dress to be put off and on to suit circumstances, but a principle—calm, steady, unwavering.

Alas that pride, unbelief, and selfishness, like a foul cancer, are eating out vital godliness from the heart of many a professed Christian! When judged according to their works, how many will learn, too late, that their religion was but a glittering cheat, unacknowledged by Jesus Christ.

Love to Jesus will be seen, will be felt. It cannot be hidden. It exerts a wondrous power. It makes the timid bold, the slothful diligent, the ignorant wise.

It makes the stammering tongue eloquent, and rouses the dormant intellect into new life and vigor.
It makes the desponding hopeful, the gloomy joyous.
Love to Christ will lead its possessor to accept responsibilities for His sake, and to bear them in His strength. Love to Christ will not be dismayed by tribulation, nor turned aside from duty by reproaches.
