하나님께서는 오용이 아닌, 현명한 증진을 하도록

우리에게 여러 가지 재능을 부여하신다.

 

교육은 인생의 모든 의무들을 최선껏 행할 수 있도록

신체적, 지성적 그리고 도덕적 능력들을 준비시키는 데 지나지 않는다.

바르지 못한 독서는 그릇된 교육을 준다.

 

인내력, 뇌의 능력과 활동은

그것들이 활용되는 방법에 따라서 감소되든지 증가될 수 있다.

 

순결하고 건전한 독서와 마음의 관계는

건강에 좋은 음식과 신체의 관계와 같다.

 

그렇게 한다면 그대는 유혹을 저항하고

바른 습관들을 형성하고 바른 원칙들에 입각하여 행동하는 데

더욱 강한 사람이 될 것이다....

 

사람의 신앙 경험의 성격은

한가할 때 읽으려고 선택하는 책의 내용으로 드러난다.

건강한 정신과 건전한 신앙원칙을 가지려는 청년들은

하나님의 말씀을 통하여 하나님과 교통하는 가운데 생활하지 않으면 안된다.

그리스도를 통한 구원의 길을 지적해 줌으로써

성경은 더 높고 더 좋은 생애로 인도하는 안내자가 된다.

 

성경에는 일찍이 기록된 것 중에서

가장 흥미롭고 교훈적인 역사와 전기가 포함되어 있다.

소설을 읽으므로 상상력이 왜곡되지 않은 사람들은

성경이 모든 책 중에서 가장 흥미있는 책임을 발견할 것이다.

God bestows upon us talents for wise improvement, not for abuse.

Education is but a preparation of the physical, intellectual, and moral powers for the best performance of all the duties of life.

Improper reading gives an education that is false. The power of endurance and the strength and activity of the brain may be lessened or increased according to the manner in which they are employed.

Pure healthful reading will be to the mind what healthful food is to the body. You will thus become stronger to resist temptation, to form right habits, and to act upon right principles....

The nature of one's religious experience is revealed by the character of the books one chooses to read in one's leisure moments.
In order to have a healthy tone of mind and sound religious principles, the youth must live in communion with God through His Word.

Pointing out the way of salvation through Christ, the Bible is our guide to a higher, better life.
It contains the most interesting and the most instructive history and biography that were ever written.
Those whose imagination has not become perverted by the reading of fiction will find the Bible the most interesting of books.
