천연계와 우리 안에 역사하는 하나님의 능력

생각이 깊은 일꾼은 밭을 가는 중에 전혀 생각지 못했던 보물이 눈앞에 나타나는 것을 보게 된다.

농업이나 원예를 할 때, 그 법칙에 주의하지 않고는 아무도 성공할 수 없다.

각종 식물에 대하여 그 특수성을 연구하지 않으면 안 된다.

종류에 따라 서로 다른 토양과 재배법이 요구되기 때문에

각 식물에 적당한 법칙을 따르는 것이 성공의 비결이다.

이식에 필요한 요령, 즉 모근을 너무 한데 뭉치지 않게 한다든지, 적당한 곳에 묻는다든지,

또는 모를 보호하고 전정하고 물 주며, 밤에는 서리로부터, 낮에는 햇빛으로부터 보호하고,

잡초와 병충해를 막고, 가지를 고르게 하며 바르게 배열하는 데에 주의하는 일들은

모두 품성의 발달을 위하여 중요한 교과를 가르칠 뿐만 아니라 그 일 자체가 발달의 수단이 된다.

앞에서 이야기한 것들은 조심성, 인내, 세밀하게 살피는 자세, 법칙에 대한 순종 등을 가르치는 데

매우 적절한 훈련이 된다.

천연계를 유지하는 같은 능력이 사람 속에서도 작용하고 있다.

별들과 미생물을 인도하는 위대한 법칙이 사람의 생명을 지배하고 있다.

체내에서 생명의 흐름을 조절하고 심장의 작용을 지배하는 법칙은,

영혼의 재판권을 가지시고 위대한 지혜를 가지신 하나님의 법칙이다.

모든 생명은 그분에게서 나온다.

생명의 참된 활동 범위는 하나님과 조화를 이룰 때에만 찾을 수 있다.

하나님께서 만드신 만물은 그 조건이 동일하니,

곧 그 생명은 하나님의 생명을 받음으로써 유지되고, 창조주의 뜻과 일치되는 곳에서 행사되는 것이다.

지적, 영적, 육적인 것을 무론하고 하나님의 법을 범하는 것은 자신을 우주의 조화 밖에다 두는 것으로,

불화와 무질서와 파멸을 가져 오게 된다.

천연계의 교훈을 이렇게 받아들이는 자들에게는 삼라 만상이 빛을 발하고,

세계는 교과서요 인생은 학교가 된다.

사람이 가지는 천연계와 하나님과의 조화, 우주를 지배하는 법칙,

그리고 죄의 결과는 마음에 감동을 주고 품성을 형성할 수 있다.

God’s Power in Nature and Us

In the cultivation of the soil the thoughtful worker will find that treasures little dreamed of are opening up before him. No one can succeed in agriculture or gardening without attention to the laws involved. The special needs of every variety of plant must be studied. Different varieties require different soil and cultivation, and compliance with the laws governing each is the condition of success.

The attention required in transplanting, that not even a root fiber shall be crowded or misplaced, the care of the young plants, the pruning and watering, the shielding from frost at night and sun by day, keeping out weeds, disease, and insect pests, the training and arranging, not only teach important lessons concerning the development of character, but the work itself is a means of development.

In cultivating carefulness, patience, attention to detail, obedience to law, it imparts a most essential training.

The same power that upholds nature is working also in man. The same great laws that guide alike the star and the atom control human life. The laws that govern the heart’s action, regulating the flow of the current of life to the body, are the laws of the mighty Intelligence that has the jurisdiction of the soul. From Him all life proceeds. only in harmony with Him can be found its true sphere of action.

For all the objects of His creation the condition is the same—a life sustained by receiving the life of God, a life exercised in harmony with the Creator’s will. To transgress His law, physical, mental, or moral, is to place one’s self out of harmony with the universe, to introduce discord, anarchy, ruin.

To him who learns thus to interpret its teachings, all nature becomes illuminated; the world is a lesson book, life a school. The unity of man with nature and with God, the universal dominion of law, the results of transgression, cannot fail of impressing the mind and molding the character.
